Charles Dixon, 85, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, with his son by his side. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and man of deep faith, Charles lived a life marked by devotion, steady effort, and enduring love.
Born in Mobile, Alabama, the eldest of seven children, Charles carried responsibility naturally from an early age. The defining chapter of his life began when he met Mary Jane while his sister was doing her hair. That same day, Charles told his mother, “That’s the woman I’m going to marry.” From that day until Mary Jane’s passing in 2015, they were inseparable, spending only three days apart in 48 years of marriage. His devotion to her never wavered, and she remained the great anchor of his life.
Charles and Mary Jane built their life together in Youngstown, Ohio, where they raised their only son Phil. In 2000, they moved to San Diego to be closer to Phil, sunshine and new adventures.
Charles showed up relentlessly for the people he loved. He was deeply proud of his son and his daughter-in-law, Michelle. He treasured his granddaughter, Naya. Even on his final day, he found the strength to tell Naya he loved her and smiled when she spoke to him. For Charles, love was not expressed in grand gestures but in daily effort and faithfulness.
Charles proudly served in the United States Air Force and carried that sense of duty and discipline throughout his life. He was a devoted member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Youngstown, Ohio; Bayview Baptist Church in San Diego; and, for the last decade, North Coast Calvary Chapel. His faith was steady and deeply lived, guiding him through joy, loss, and ultimately into peace.
He found joy in sports, time with family, conversation and the companionship of his beloved dog, Gwen. In his final moments, knowing Gwen was safe and well cared for brought him visible peace.
Charles is survived by his son Phil; his daughter-in-law, Michelle; his granddaughter, Naya; his sisters, Delorise, Margie, Louise, and Ann; and the many people whose lives he touched through quiet example and faithful presence.
Memorial services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026 at North Coast Calvary Chapel at 1330 Poinsettia Lane, Carlsbad, California 92011.
