Chuck, born on October 30, 1935 in Houston, Texas, was the son of G. L. Nino and Olga Bertha (Draeger) Nino. At the age of 18, Chuck joined the Merchant Marines and in October of 1959 he joined the Marine Corps which he proudly served until 1961. During his stint in the Marine Corps, Chuck was a distinguished boxer. Upon his discharge, Chuck settled in San Diego County. He worked for 35 years for Kearfott Singer in San Marcos. Upon his retirement, Chuck spent his time doing something he loved his whole life, fishing.
Chuck loved the sea and all things related to fishing. This passion he shared with his sons and his nephews. Many, many hours were logged on his boat “El Nino”. It’s safe to say, Oceanside Harbor was his home away from home. In true competitor fashion Chuck and his fishing buddies started the Oceanside Mako Shark Tournament. Chuck is the true definition of a “Salty Old Dog”.
Most importantly, Chuck is the father to Anthony (Tony) and Kyle Nino. Chuck instilled in his boys his work ethic, his love of family and his passion for the sea. Chuck is survived by his son Tony, daughter-in-law Linda and grandson Kyle; his former wife Connie Grimes, sister-in-law Cynthia Crout, nephew Stephen Crout and his family, wife Sharon and son Christopher.
Chuck is predeceased by his parents and on November 2, 2006, his youngest son, Kyle.
There will be no public calling hours. The funeral was held on January 15th at 6:00 p.m. at Eternal Hills Funeral Home in Oceanside, CA. Upon Chuck’s final wishes, his ashes together with Kyle’s ashes, will be spread at sea. This event will be held at a later date and is private for family members
