Dennis was a devoted husband, father, friend, teacher, and Christian. He was born and raised in Michigan where he attended several public and Lutheran schools. Early on, he showed his passion for construction, architecture, art and music.
Following his passion, he went on to study architecture at Lawrence Technological University where he met his wife, Marlene. Together, they moved to California, eventually settling in Oceanside, CA, where they raised their daughter, Alexandra.
Beginning his career as an architectural draftsman, Dennis helped to design and construct many buildings all over Southern California. He came up with many new ways to add on to his home, which has many of his personal touches.
He was always looking for new adventures, so he went back to school and earned his Masters degree in Architecture from the New School of Architecture & Design in 2017. With this accomplishment, he began teaching classes in construction management and architecture at the New School of Architecture & Design.
Much of his time in recent years was spent traveling with his wife, Marlene. Some recent trips include an “epic roadtrip” to Maine as well as adventures on the Big Island of Hawaii. In his role as a professor, he took his students on field trips to learn about construction and to places such as the Salk Institute. As a certified drone pilot, he drove all over San Diego county taking drone videos and posted many on his Youtube channel.
He also instilled a love of music in his daughter, teaching her all about the oldies, how to burn CDs, and vinyl records.
Everyone will remember him with a big smile and so full of joy. Alexandra and Marlene will always remember him as their number one cheerleader.
He is survived by his wife (Marlene Selke), daughter (Alexandra Selke), mother (Arlene Schell), brothers (James Selke, Alan Selke), sister-in-law (LeAnn Ottaway), nephews (Jack Selke, Justin Selke, Parker Ottaway, Keith Ottaway), many dear cousins, extended family, numerous friends, students, and faculty. A memorial service will be held at Eternal Hills in Oceanside, CA on November 11, 2023 at 1PM.
