Well, Mom, it has been over ten years since you went to be with the Lord.  I thought it would somehow get easier or that I would miss you less over time, but you are so very missed!  I can feel you watching over us and enjoying our successes.  I know that you’re still scolding me when I step out of line and still cheering me on when I do well.  Thank you for watching over us!  Thank you for being such an important influence in my life.  Thank you for holding me to a high standard.  Thank you for loving me with all your heart.  Thank you for being a wonderful role model and strong woman of God.  I hope that you are looking down, smiling upon me...proud of the woman I am.

Little Shelby isn’t so little anymore!  She’s growing into a beautiful, strong woman.  She has finally grown into the nightgown she borrowed from you all those years ago.  She no longer has to tie knots in the straps and it doesn’t reach her ankles like it once did.  She still treasures it as much as always.  She graduates from high school in June and I’m sure you’ll be watching, cheering for her as you did me.  Thank you for loving us.  Thank you for the legacy!  We will forever strive to meet your example.

Two years ago today Diane transitioned to heaven and I selected "When we all get to Heaven" as the theme of her celebration of life ceremony. I truly feel Blessed to have been raised with strong Christian values and belief in the goodness and mercy of God, Jesus died for our sins, etc. As I've continued to count my Blessings and accepted "God's will be done on earth as it is in Heaven; the pain of my loss is being mitigated by continuing to recognize my Blessings. God promised he would never leave us or forsake us.

This morning as my daughter (Shelley) and granddaughter (Shelby) left for school, we had a brief moment of reflection and I was reminded of how important it is to practice what you preach (always look at the positive side of things). Shelley stated that today is the second anniversary Diane being in Heaven rather than two years since she left us. Leaving this life if the beginning of eternal life; It is often said "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" (inferred from 2 Cor 5:8, but not directly stated).

Diane, we know you're looking down smiling with pride and rooting for us all the way; we feel your presence in our midst.

Shelley & little Shelby are experiencing successes beyond our wildest imagination; they are living out the legacy of beauty, intelligence, hard work and winning way as exampled by the wonderful life you shared with us. It can be said over and over “when we all get to Heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be”

Love is forever.

A Pastor throughout his experience as a leader in a local church is privileged to meet hundreds and even thousands of people. Out of these acquaintances a small percentage develop into friendships. As Diane's Pastor I can truly say, Diane was truly a friend to my wife, myself and the members of Faith Temple Christian Center. Diane was the type of person a pastor welcomes in his congregation. She was kind, considerate, cooperative, giving, compassionate, and the list goes on. Never a negative word towards any one, always carrying herself as a Christian women should.  Diane was a virtuous woman, she cared for her husband, her family, her friends and her church. She loved God and it showed through her willingness to help others above herself.  I am proud to have known her, proud to have her call me her pastor, proud to have a wonderful sister in Christ, and look forward to seeing her again. 

Thank you Jacob's Family for sharing your wife, friend, mother, grandmother, and sister in Christ with myself, my wife, and the church family at Faith Temple Christian Center. You all are always in our hearts and prayers.

I honestly didn't know Mrs.Diane that long, but the one thing you could always guarantee seeing was her smile. Mrs.Diane had one of those smiles that could brighten the darkest room and melt the coldest heart.

Talking about loss is still hard for me so I talk about win.  Simply put, Diane and Shelby have been a win for me.
Be blessed and continue to be a win for others.

College Bound Oceanside is still talking about the Diane Jacobs Scholarship that was provided by her family.  Mrs. Jacobs was clearly a phenomenal woman and her legacy is continuing through her husband, daughter and grandaughter.  I along with the members of College Bound Oceanside, thank God for allowing our paths to cross with such an elegant and impressive person.  Mrs. Jacobs, thank you for touching so many lives and making a difference for young people.  Your memory will live on forever in our hearts!  We love you.

Our prayers and thoughts are with Shelby (our neighbor) thru the years.  We all face challenges, but none so great as the loss of a loved one.  May God bless and comfort you Shelby.

When I first met you, I had no idea we would become such great friends.  It would take forever for me to express my feelings toward you and Shelby!

However, I am so glad we had many great conversations with each other.  I am pleased I had a chance to be a guest in your home.  You just let me be myself.  I always felt so comfortable in your company.  It was always such a joy to know you and Shelby would be coming to Las Vegas and we were going to get together and go to lunch so we could talk and talk some more.

Our discussions about our BSF Bible Studies were magnificent!  Your take on the Bible Lessons always brought another dimension.  I always wondered how you had to take/have to time to be so involved. Of course you always reminded me that I ahd a lot of energy and was just as involved as you.

Just know David and I miss you and am looking forward to seeing you when we get to HEAVEN!

Each day I reflect on the Celebration of life theme "When we all get to Heaven what a day of rejoicing that will be”. My faith is strengthened by little Shelby's acceptance of the fact that by the grace of God you are in a much better place, no more crying, sickness, etc.
 I embrace the many benefits (along with family members, friends & associates) derived from the blessing of sharing your life. You possessed an infectious smile, warm/winning personality, lit up the environment with your presence, always stood out in a crowd, a superb photogenic quality, an immense appreciation of life and the quality thereof. Looking through the archives of pictures, videos, etc. of numerous activities, events & vacations over the past 35 years it is clear that your passion for the good life is exampled throughout. I have become increasingly more aware of my appreciation for the "value of sharing" as contrasted with having no one with whom to share. 

You will be missed forever; words cannot express how much (far more than I could have ever imagined). Having been single for 13 years prior to our meeting, I thought I had an understanding of being alone and how to cope. I had learned to be quite self sufficient early in life, but without a real sense of value for a true "soul mate". No matter where we went, how long or how enjoyable, it was always a great feeling to get back home; I would even find myself rushing home from work. Somehow there's a void in not having the profound sharing and the home we built seems more a house than a home to return to. I am constantly reminded (24/7) that we built a sharing life and not having you to share leaves even the best of things a little empty. 
While I have accepted God's will that you reside in Heaven among the Angels, the transition is easily the most difficult thing I have ever experienced.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.  Matthew 6:10
It is sometimes very painful, but I know "The Lord will make a way somehow"; I may not get over it, but it will get better. All things are possible with the help of God!
And Jesus said to him, ‘If you can'! All things are possible for one who believes.” Mark 9:23
I wake up every day, thanking the Lord for the many blessing he has bestowed on me and I celebrate each as it is truly the first day of the rest of my life.
Shelley and little Shelby are very supportive, having shared vacations and attending several events with me (including awarding "Diane Jacobs scholarship" at College Bound Commencement ceremony. They are both enjoying immense success in their endeavors and we all feel your presence in celebration of same. I can sense you joy and know you must be dancing for joy among the angels.

I still miss you so much!  I miss your advice and encouragement.  I feel you here with me so often and it comforts me to know that our love for each other is so strong.  You have a profound influence on me even now.  I can hear your admonitions in my head and I thank you for watching out for me and little Shelby.  

Dad misses you tremendously and I'm trying my best to help fill the void.  He's really doing okay!  You know he's "housebroke" and can take care of himself, but his life is so different without you there to share everything with...you know?  All in all, I'm very proud of him.  He's adjusting as well as can be expected.

Little Shelby is doing great!  She is growing up to be so beautiful and smart.  You'd be so proud of her faith!  She has a wonderfully sweet spirit and while she can cop quite an attitude with me at times, she is kind and generous.  It's nice to know that no matter what she's doing or how far we have travel to do it that you are there watching over.

Diane was no is my homegirl whom I adored very much. She was truly a Proverbs woman who loved the Lord with everything she was and became.  I missed great opportunities with the two of you but am very glad she had you in her life.  Through you Diane has blessed me with much and because of her you have blessed me more with your words of wisdom your friendship, and most of all your love of life.  I mis her deeply but she continues to live in my heart as you continue to keep her greatness alive.  God bles you both and may you continue to be blessed.

Although I only met Diane a few times, I was always so impressed by her grace and dignity and by the love and respect that exuded from you and Diane at all times and I can see that love and respect continues on.  I can only hope to have what you had in my lifetime.  While it was a strange way that I came to meet the two of you - not until the sudden, unexpected passing of my father - yet you had been a friend of my father's, playing bridge with him weekly - that chance friendship upon the death of my father has been one of the greatest blessings to me and my family.  I only wish God had not taken Diane from us so soon and we could have gotten to known her better as I know what an incredibly special person she was in life from you.  

Rest in peace, Diane.  You were  clearly such a graceful, beautiful person here on earth.  I know you are gracing God with your presence in Heaven.  And when you see my daddy, please tell him that I miss him and I love him.

Father's Day Tradition continues:
Shelley & Shelby took time away from their Church to join me at my Church (Faith Temple Christian Center, Oceanside)for morning Services followed by dinner at one of our favorite restaurants (Hungry Hunters Steak House) and a visit to Eternal Hills to pay our respects to Diane. We acknowleged the second cycle of significant holidays without the center piece of our lives. This time last year were in a fog and did not really feel the significance of our loss due to grief & morning. However, this year our senses of loss are unencumbered by the immediate aftermath of all the activities surrounding the events of our loss. 
Although Diane's spirit is always present, we miss her as the central theme in our lives. She orchestrated all major events with her special flavor. 
We are adjusting with the help of God Almighty, prayers and well wishes of relatives, friends and associates.
We solicit your continued prayers as we proceed with life, seek whatever blessings our future holds and find ways of sharing same.

Shelly, little Shelby & I stopped by Eternal Hills after dinner to pay our respects.

As I reflect on the many birthdays (35 years) we shared, often spending the week celebrating in Las Vegas at our favorite resort.

The life we built together is missing only your physical presence; I continue to experience and cherish your spiritual presence. In that sense, I'm never alone for the spirit of the Lord and you are with me always. 

I am adjusting to being physically alone, punctuated by brief moments of loneliness. 

As God's will be done in all our lives, I am comforted in knowing that She/he (smile) is able to see us through.

I am constantly thoughtful of how blessed I am and it is my prayer that I will have opportunities to continue sharing God's blessings.

As I sit pondering and composing this note in my favorite spot in the yard appreciating the "beauty of another Day that the Lord has made".

Diane is my homegirl and to many that might sound strange coming from a preacher in his 50's and that's ok cause this ain't bout you but my friend who has gone home to be with the Lord. I miss you homegirl and I'm sorry you had to go but I will see you again and when I do what a time what a time we will have when we sing HOLY HOLY HOLY! You are a very good woman and you blessed me just by knowing you.  Like your husband Jacob you are always with me.  I hear you saying, "There's my homeboy!" I love you and I miss you. You are home and one day perhaps soon perhaps later only God knows but we WILL meet again. In the meantime I will continue to pray, visit and comfort my brother, your husband and keep him prayed up  for he knows the Lord. You made him a very happy man and in him I see the love that all men should have for their wife. God bless Shelby for being the mann God created for you.  Love you homegirl! My song for you,

In the short time I knew Diane, she was so gracious and accepting.  I just wish I could have known her sooner.

She will be remembered in the hearts of all who met her.

In honor of my dearly beloved wife, I want to share a piece written on her behalf by a former schoolmate.


I Met Mrs. Jacobs at there home with Mr. Jacobs; she was nice to me and made me feel blessed!  It saddened me to hear her fall to sleep! I didn't get to say to her "Thanks for her prayers for me"! Yea, when Shelby was telling me she was gone; it made me feel sorry, yet the Holy Spirit let me know that day that those who sleep in Christ Jesus will be with him!

Oh please don,t feel Guilty ,it was my time to go.  I see you are still feeling sad, and the tears just seem to flow.We all come to earth for our Lifetime, and for some its not many years, I don,t want you to keep crying, you are shedding so many tears.  I haven,t really left you, even though it may seem so.  I have just gone to my Heavenly Home and I,m closer than you know. Diane was a warm, loving and caring woman. She always made you feel welcome and comfortable. She glowed and always had a smile on her face.  She shines on and holds a special in our hearts.

Our world has been blessed knowing we have gained another angel to watch over us.  Diane was a very special person, who entered our lives and left too soon.  She is now resting in the arms of our Lord.

You will always live in my thoughts. Your smile and laughter will be remembered.

I had the privilege of knowing Diane through Bible Study Fellowship.  We were in a group together a few years ago and she made a huge impression on me.  Her smile and enthusiasm reflected God's love to all she encountered.  I remember she hosted a luncheon get together in her lovely home.  She felt so blessed to have us all there she took pictures around the table.  Her joy was contagious and her love for the Lord was freely expressed to all.  Miss her and look forward to seeing her in eternity for sure!

In honor of my beloved wife, best friend, confidant and "the center of my Universe" (other than God); I take great comfort from my granddaughter's innocent faith that Diane is in a better place (Heaven) and God's will has been done, for which we often pray.
I have cherished Diane from the moment we first met while on jury duty in Inglewood, California over 30 years ago.
Over all these years together, Diane and I have each taken credit for initiating our relationship. Nevertheless, it was truly a moment of "Devine predestination". We've been inseparable from that day forward and I am eternally thankful to God for putting Diane in my life.

I have known Diane & Shelby since we moved to Oceanside in 2001. In that brief time I have grown to love and cherish the good friend I called "Miss Di". I will miss her infectious laugh, her great smile and her kind words. We shared many fun times like playing cards, helping Shirley in the flower shop and many other times just spent talking. I treasured my friendship with Diane and will truly miss her, though I know she is in heaven sharing her warmth and laughter up there. LOVE YOU DI!!

Dear Shelby,
You were highly privileged to share the years that you did with the gracious Lady Diane, and we remember well the warm reception we received when visiting you in the lovely home you and Diane shared in beautiful Oceanside!  Life throws us many bumps in the road, but Diane's premature passing was particularly jolting.
  
Diane spread a lot of sunshine during her time on earth, so dwell not long on her passing; instead revel in your memories of what a blessing she was to you and all those who surround you.   We will remember her always as the gracious Lady that she was, and continue to carry you in our prayers as you march strongly into a new chapter of your life.  GOD go with you, my dear friend!

Even now, it still seems hard to believe Diane is gone. Leaving so suddenly, many of us who admired her did not have a moment to say goodbye. But the sadness and pain are not in vain as her passing teaches us all to be more thankful, more kind, more loving, and to treasure the few and  precious days we have on this side of eternity.

Words can not begin to say how sorry I am to hear of your wife's passing. Please know that you and Diane are in our prayer's.
