Dianna graduated from Pacific Junction High School in 1960. She then attended Creighton University Nursing School in Omaha, Nebraska, graduating in 1963 as a Registered Nurse. In 1981, she graduated from San Diego State University School of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She worked as a pediatric nurse at the McFarland Clinic in Ames, Iowa, from 1963 to 1968. Later, she worked in the burn unit at the Tucson Medical Center, as a home care nurse, and as a hospice nurse.
Dianna loved playing the piano. She was a voracious reader. She made every holiday special; most of all Christmas. She enjoyed shopping for gifts for others, decorating, and sending thank you cards. But, most of all she loved and cherished time with her family and friends, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandson. She was a generous, loving, giving, compassionate person who supported numerous charities (e.g., for children, veterans, animal rescues). Dianna was tirelessly active in voluntary activities at her children’s schools, a Cub Scout leader, a school nurse, and much more. She was a loving devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was a beautiful person inside and out. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Dianna was preceded in passing by her mother Hannah Fisher, her father Lewis Fisher, her brother Lewis Jr. "Toby" Fisher, and her brother Timothy A. Fisher.
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years Keith E. Asmussen, their son Matthew C. Asmussen, their son Eric K. Asmussen and his wife Colette, their son Joel D. Asmussen and his wife Marla, and her sister Nola Jean "NJ" Poklitar, granddaughters Morgan and Lindsey Asmussen, granddaughter Caitlyn Murdaugh and husband Zachary and their son Leon, nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
A Celebration of Dianna’s Life will be held at the San Dieguito United Methodist Church, located at 170 Calle Magdalena, Encinitas, CA, at 11 AM on October 23, 2026, followed by a reception. Interment will be at a later date, to be determined, in Glenwood, Iowa.
