

Donald Warren Gilbertson, age 58, passed away May 17, 2011 in Oceanside, California. Don was born July 7, 1952 in Gettysburg, South Dakota and lived in Granville, North Dakota until 1963 when he moved to St. Louis, Missouri. In 1971, Don joined the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served for 23 years, retiring in 1994 as a Captain.
Don’s U.S.M.C duty included an assignment in U.S. Embassy Security duty in Bangkok, Thailand. Other assignments included the Philippines, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, Korea and Okinawa. He was a graduate of Cal State San Marcos and worked as the Administrative Officer for Environmental Security at Camp Pendleton at the time of his death.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Kathie ( nee DuBois) and is survived by his wife Cynthia (nee Cabales), sons Kyle and Kory, brother Lyle (Peggy) and sister Laura (Norm) Eaker. He was the dear son-in-law of Anselmo and Elenita Cabales, and a beloved brother-in-law, uncle, and cousin. Don also had many friends around the world.
A viewing will be held between 5 and 8 p.m., on Wednesday, May 25th at Eternal Hills Mortuary in Oceanside. A Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, May 26th at San Luis Rey Mission Parish, 4070 Mission Ave., Sign the Guest Book online www.mem.com.
