Doris, 95 years of age, passed away on Saturday, May 4th, 2019, at Kelly’s Vista Villa, a senior care facility in Vista, California. She had been in declining health for the past few years and was cared for by her youngest daughter, Becky. She died of natural causes and passed peacefully in her sleep.
Doris was born November 25th, 1923, in Kincaid, Kansas. She was the youngest of 6 children and the last surviving child born to George Elijah and Eda May Reynolds. She grew up in the rural farming community of Kincaid, Kansas.
As a young adult she relocated to Southern California in the mid-1940’s where she met and married her husband, Hugh Thurman Atkins, on September 21st, 1946. Rumor has it Doris and Hugh met on a blind date set up by her older sister Shirley. They settled in Bell Gardens, California and had 4 children between 1949 – 1959.
Hugh, her beloved husband of almost 48 years, died May 25th, 1994, in Oceanside, California from post-surgical complications.
Doris is survived by her 4 children: Robin Le Cawdrey, Hugh Timothy Atkins, Becky Ruth Atkins & Todd Steven Atkins, 4 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren.
Doris was a loving mother, a strong, independent woman, generous with her time and resources. A loyal friend to all. She was very family focused. She loved her children but had a special place in her heart for her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. She will be missed.

After "Papa" passed away, mom would come spend weekends with us. She loved going to travel soccer games with us. She was the #1 cheerleader on the sidelines! She just really enjoyed every activity with her family. She was the sunshine to our family!
When my own mom passed away Doris became "my mom". I could not have asked for a better mother-in-law!!!
