

Elena Henry-Carrion, 91 of Oceanside, CA, passed peacefully in her sleep on March 30, 2021, at Bridge Hospice of La Fuente Nursing Facility in Vista, CA. Born May 3, 1929, Elena came from Managua, Nicaragua, in 1944. In 1947 she became a US citizen and was married to 1st Lt. Kenneth W. Henry, USMC.
Elena and Kenneth had 8 children. A devout military wife and mother, Elena raised their children while Kenneth had several duty assignments, 2 of which were in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, Her most challenging experience was when Kenneth was held captive for almost 2 years during the Korean War. They divorced in 1972. Elena was granted full custody of their children. She was married to Carlos Carrion from 1978 to 2009.
Elena was employed with the Blade-Tribune for 10 years as an English/Spanish columnist. Elena was also active in the community; a member of Lady Elks, a PTA president, a sister of Sigma Beta Phi Sorority, a civil court interpreter, and other civic duties. However, she frequently stated that her greatest achievement was raising her 8 beautiful children.
Elena enjoyed many hobbies, including playing card games with her family and neighbors, and bowling. At home, she babysat other children, upon whom she made a loving and everlasting impact.
She vacationed with her children to visit her only in-laws, Stanley and Lorraine Henry, and their 4 children, on their ranch in Jordan Valley, Oregon. Elena is survived by all of her eight children: June (Whit) McKinney; Patricia (Jim) Bissin; Gail (Gary) Sims; Kenneth Henry ll, PhD.; Richard (Katherine) Henry; Rodney (CarolAnn) Henry; Marie Henry-Mumma; Kathleen Henry-Doyle; 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Elena was preceded in death by a younger brother in childhood, both husbands, an infant great-grandchild, and Elena’s parents, Mercedes and Alejandro Uriza, by whom she will be laid to rest at Eternal Hills Cemetery.
Elena Henry-Carrion will have a Visitation at Eternal Hills Mortuary, Oceanside on May 3, 2021 from 9:00am-11:00am, followed by graveside services at her burial site. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Elena’s favorite charity:
