1920-2017
Elizabeth “Libby” Anderson was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in June 1920, as Elizabeth Morley Whited.
Early on, Libby was a sports enthusiast. She loved playing sports in high school, especially la crosse, basketball, and field hockey. Her senior yearbook stated she was most likely to become a P.E. teacher. She and her father would often attend Indians and Browns games. She loved going to summer camp.
She graduated Colby Sawyer College in New Hampshire in 1940, after which she began her career with American Airlines as a reservations agent. She worked for them in Cleveland, Washington DC, and then San Diego.
She met Dr. Harold Johnson in La Jolla, CA, and they married in 1956.
Together they had three children and resided in San Diego. In 1977, Harold Sr. died.
In 1989, Libby married Clarence “Andy” Anderson. Together they traveled the world and enjoyed countless Padres and Chargers games until Andy passed in 2003.
In her later years, Libby took delight in her grandsons Eric and Alex. Always determined and feisty, she remained active, continuing to cruise for several more years. She was an avid bridge player, a skilled knitter and embroiderer, and relished living near the ocean. What she loved most were her children and grandchildren and all the interesting stories they brought to her.
Elizabeth went to be with Jesus in August 2017 at the age of 97.
She is survived by her daughter Judy (Alan), son Andrew (Patti), son Harold Jr. (Terri), grandsons Eric and Alex, and sister Joanne Neville of Cleveland.
