Emilio Javier Urioste died peacefully on April 13th in La Jolla, California at the age of 79.

Emilio was predeceased by his wife Aurora. He is survived by his children, Emilio Urioste, Jr., of Valencia, California, Alicia Skow of San Marcos, California and Eric Urioste of West Covina, his siblings, Noeli Chavez (Andrew) of San Clemente, California, Eddie Urioste (Marlene) of Chino Hills California, his son in law Randy and three grandchildren: Gabrielle Skow, Christian Skow and William Skow. He also had several cousins, nieces, nephews, and a grand-nephew, whom he all adored.

Emilio was born on December 3, 1938 in Havana, Cuba to Emilio and Delia Urioste. He graduated from Escuela Pias (Escolapios) in 1955 with a high school diploma and attended the University of Havana and studied Business Administration. He married Aurora Besteiro, in 1959. The family immigrated to Los Angeles California in 1965. There, he began a long career in sheet metal fabrication, working for Smith Manufacturing for 39 years as a manager. The family moved to Vista, California in 1977, where they continued to raise their three children. His children remember him as a devoted father who provided love, support and encouragement to pursue their goals. After his wife passed in 1997, he devoted himself to his grandchildren and was a presence at all of their school and extra-curricular activities.

Emilio had an incredible memory and would often tell jokes and stories. He was a generous, witty and dedicated man who loved his family and who was passionate about sharing in his children’s experiences. He was a member of the Anglican Church of the Resurrection in San Marcos, California. In the last four years, he offered his services to volunteer at Maryland Elementary in Vista for the summer academy and also served as an after school reading tutor. Emilio was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing at least twice a week on local courses.

A funeral mass is scheduled for April 20, 2018 at Eternal Hills Mortuary, 1999 El Camino Real, Oceanside: viewing at noon, service at 1pm in the chapel and graveside burial at 2pm.
