I remember a young man visiting with Fletcher in Pine Cove in the early 1980's and the sharing of ideas Eric & Fletcher had around many cups of coffee. I am sorry to hear of his passing. We thought of him often and if my memory is correct, stopped for a visit with him in Northern California on one of our trips to Oregon.  Fletcher held him and his dad in high regard.    I am saddened by the loss of another good fireman and send my deepest sympathy to his family.

It was so sad to hear of Eric's passing. Having worked with and for the Griggs family, Eric's Dad Rex, his Uncle Joe Griggs and of course Eric. 
Eric was a good employee and a excellent firefighter always sharp dressed and well spoken, so much like his Dad in so many ways, Many fond memories of those days around the Griggs Family.
My Condolences  to Shirley the true head of the Griggs family and by far the most gracious.
So sorry there will not be a Last Alarm to share memories.


Eric and I reported together as Fire Fighter CDF, at Station  17,  in ORCO.  We rented a house and had some great times.  Enjoyed his boat on Lake Elsinore many a times.  As we both moved on we would see each other on various occasions.  Loved his stories, he had his way with words.  Memories as fresh as yesterday.

I am so sorry for your loss.  May knowing he is now resting and pain free bring some comfort during this most difficult time.  I remember Eric when I worked at RRU.  He was a kind and sweet man.  Thoughts and prayers are with the family.  

I worked with Eric in Orange County Fire Dept./CDF ORU for many years in the 1970's mostly at the UCI station.  We had a great friendship for many years to follow, when he left OC to move to Pilot Rock, and all his other Chiefs assignments.  Eric also introduced me to the love of my life along that journey, about 1981!

I too was at Eric's house in San Bernardino, to help pour his driveway at his first house he purchased. It was very memorable as Joe DePaoli explained with Rex Griggs, Joe Springer and other high ranking CDF Chiefs battling over who was going to get the honor of putting the finishing trowel work to the newly poured driveway where everyone pitched in to get this poured in one days work!

It is very sad to hear about the medical issues that Eric has been dealing with for the last 10+ years, and which caused him to give up any further treatments, due to the extremely painful treatments he was receiving.  Eric was a great firefighter, Chief Officer, Leader, Great Father to Morgan, and a great Friend to me over so many years! Eric will be sorely missed!  Rest in Peace, my Brother!

I was sorry to hear of your son, Eric's passing. I hope you are well, dear friend. I now live in Forest Falls. We have many memories of our firemen husbands and raising our children.  God Bless you and all of your family, Shirley.

I have memories of Eric, Rexann, Shirley, and Rex when he was my Assistant Ranger (Battalion Chief) at Los Banos in the early 1960's.  I well remember taking Eric pheasant hunting, and how mad Rex would get when we got birds and he didn't.  Wonderful family, good memories.

Eric used to live just down the street in San Bernardino. One of the memories I have is that of pouring concrete at his house. There to help was myself, Rex his father and Joe Springer the Chief of Region VI.  Seems just like it was yesterday. My condolences to the Griggs family. 

I’m so very sorry to hear of the loss of Chief Griggs. He was very instrumental in my early pursuit of a fire service career while I was with the Crest Forest Fire District. I was fortunate to have had a 30 year career with CALFIRE, and I hope I was able to at least come close to Eric’s skill and professionalism as a chief officer.
