

Evelyn “ET” Tubbs, beloved mother, grandmother, friend, and community member, passed away on September 20, 2024, at Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas, California, at the age of 83. She was born on October 19, 1940, in Forrest City, Arkansas, to Homer Williams, Sr. and Rae Mae Williams.
Evelyn’s life was defined by her commitment to God, education, and career excellence. Evelyn dedicated her life to Christ at an early age at Madison Light Baptist Church, Madison, AR. After graduating from Lincoln High School in Forrest City, AR, she went on to pursue her college education at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO, where she became a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. After graduating from Lincoln University, she embarked on a successful career in accounting, holding key positions at Le Moyne Owen College, Hughes Aircraft, Palomar Technologies, and Cal State San Marcos University. She dedicated herself to the City of Oceanside’s Planning Commission in her spare time; she was a member of DaySpring Outreach Ministries, a musical ensemble of various cultures, ages, and faith-based systems. She was a faithful fan in support of her favorite football team, the San Diego Chargers.
She met her soulmate, Srgt. Major James Tubbs, on a fateful blind date organized by her dearest friend, Virgie Bland. This initial date blossomed into a love story for the ages, and through this union, her one and only child, James Tubbs, Jr., was born.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Evelyn’s journey was marked by love, dedication, and a relentless passion for helping others. Her impact on the community and society was profound, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be remembered for her selfless nature, infectious laughter, and unwavering dedication to making others smile. She was a true friend to many, always willing to lend a helping hand and share her warmth with those around her.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Sgt. Major James Tubbs, Sr., six sisters, Thelma Williams, Velma Bryson, Tempie Moorehead, Lucretia Williford, Willie Mae Graham, and Majorie Black. She leaves to cherish her memories her son, James “Boo” Tubbs, Jr., grandson, Demetrius “DJ” Singleton, two brothers, Homer Williams, Jr., James Williams, Sr., a Goddaughter, Rasheeda Lawrence, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous other family members and friends.
