Francine M. Luy, 94 years of age, from Vista passed away peacefully at home. She was born in Kalaheo Kauai one of 10 children from a farming family who emigrated from Spain in 1907. She attended the local catholic school with her brothers and sisters and later worked in the local agricultural industries. After high school she moved to the island of Oahu and found work and friends in the area. On December 2, 1948 she married John J. Luy and lived near Waikiki beach and the Ala Wai canal. On September 30, 1950 she gave birth to her only child Stephen J. and delighted in taking him to the beach to enjoy the ocean.
During the summer of 1951 the family moved to Warren Illinois near John’s family. She made many new friends and later started work at the Micro Switch factory. After much hard work she was promoted and given an opportunity to work at a higher salary in the neighboring city of Freeport Illinois. Sometime later she received an additional promotion and delighted in working with her new friends and co-workers.
After 13 years the family decided to move to Gardena, California for additional employment opportunities. Fran immediately was hired by one of Micro Switches associates, Jay El Products in Gardena. Again she enjoyed the work rose through the ranks and became an inspector. Fran and John enjoyed life in Gardena and later purchased their first home. Sometime after that they joined the local Elks Club and had many fun times, travel and adventures with that organization. They belonged to St Anthony’s church in Gardena and enjoyed attending mass. While in Gardena her only son graduated from college and later married Clair Marsella. Fran and John later welcomed three grandchildren, John A. Anna R. and Adam S. to the family. They enjoyed life in Gardena and began taking cruises with their friends which they thoroughly enjoyed.
After her son moved to Vista, Francine and John moved to Oceanside. They bought a cozy house and looked forward to spending a comfortable retirement and being with their grandchildren. They enjoyed traveling, visiting the local Elks, going to church and visiting the casinos. They acquired many new friends and even old friends who later moved to Oceanside and enjoyed life.
Funeral services will be held at St. Margret’s Catholic Church on Tuesday June, 28th at 11:00. A viewing will be held at 10:00 with a rosary to follow.
