Gareth Joseph Modica

July 14, 1926October 10, 2020

Gary was born July 14, 1926, in Bayonne, NJ. He passed away on Saturday, October 10th, in the City of Hemet. He is survived by his wife, Jennie of 71 years, brother Mike, 2 daughters Lillian Ohrt and Josephine Hoadley, and grandchildren Jeannie, Gary, Jimmy, Kelly, Bradley, Savannah, and Jaxson.

His talents were many; he was an excellent baseball player; his sense of humor was adored by everyone; his gift of artistry was demonstrated in the drawings he produced and his ability to decorate a home inside and out; and he was the most dedicated husband, parent, and grandfather. Gary loved his family more than anything else in the world. He was loyal, trustworthy, kind, caring, and a true friend to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be missed, yet not forgotten.

We love you, Gary!!

So sorry to hear of the passing of Gary. I knew him from the days when we worked together at So Pasadena P.D. He was a Reserve Officer & later became a Regular on patrol before retiring. After my graduation from the R.S.O. Academy, I rode with Gary during my initial training for patrol. Previously, for several yrs, we had worked together on the desk. He always spoke about his family & he was devoted to his religion. We had a lot of laughs together & even though I haven't seen him since my retirement, my wife & I will forever remember him. In conclusion, we would like to offer our sincerest condolences to the Modica family. Sincerely, Richard & Irene Luna.

I love you Pop. You were my biggest fan since Day one. You have taught me so much, you loved me no matter what. God broke the mold when he made you, you were one of a kind. I am going to miss your jokes, you missed your calling as a stand up comedian! Thank you for being the strong, loving man we all cherished and adored. You will forever be loved and missed. Rest in Heaven....Love, your "Scooch" Jeannie
