

Gary Reeve, 82, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026, in Vista, California. Born on May 6, 1944, in San Diego, California, Gary lived a life dedicated to service, family, and a deep appreciation for the natural world.
At the age of 21, Gary embarked on a remarkable career with the Encinitas Fire Department. Over the course of more than three decades, he served his community with unwavering commitment and courage. His dedication to protecting others left an enduring legacy within the department and among those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
After retiring from his firefighting career, Gary embraced his love for the outdoors by volunteering at national parks throughout California. His passion for nature was further reflected in his lifetime membership with the Sierra Club, where he actively supported conservation efforts and inspired others to cherish and protect the environment.
Gary is survived by his sister Karen Prentice of Oregon; his four children: Theresa Reeve of Menifee; Barbara Godes & husband Loren of Ramona; Wendy Wilson & husband Ron of Oceanside; and Paul Reeve & wife Jenifer of Temecula. He also leaves behind a loving legacy through his 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma and his parents, Fred and Marion Reeve.
Gary’s life was one of service, adventure, and love for family. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
In honor of Gary’s memory and his lifelong dedication to preserving nature, the family suggests donations be made to the Sierra Club or Hospice in lieu of flowers.
