Grover Lewis Jackson Jr. began his life journey in Kansas City, Kansas on March 12, 1939. He was the eldest of two sons born to Grover L. Jackson Sr. and Evelyn M. Jackson, both of whom preceded him in death.
He accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church of Oceanside, California. Where he attended for many years until his health began to fail.
Grover grew up in Portland Oregon, graduating from Central Catholic High School in 1957. He studied Law Enforcement in college while enlisting in the USMC Reserves. He went active duty and served 20 years in the Marine Corps, retiring with the rank of Gunnery Sargeant in 1978. He served two tours of duty in Viet Nam and in Japan, receiving numerous citations and awards for good conduct.
In 1967, he married the love of his life, Katie M. Harris, who preceded him in death. They lived happily ever after for over 47 years.
Grover and Katie were inseparable; they loved to travel, most of the time riding their Harley Davidson Motorcycle. They belonged to the Paladins Motorcycle Club for many years. Grover served as President of the club at one time. Together with Katie’s son Phil, and the pets, they formed a wonderful little family.
After retiring from the Marine Corps, Grover put his driving expertise and Law Enforcement training to use: first as a school bus driver for the Oceanside Unified School District, he retired in 2002. Next, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by becoming a Senior Volunteer Police Officer for the Oceanside Police Department. He was an SVPP for nearly 20 years until his health began to fail. He was named the Police Department’s employee of the 2nd quarter for 2007, and in the same year was named Senior Volunteer Officer of the Year!
Grover was also a member of the International Order of the Alhambra; a Fraternal Catholic Organization that servers the disabled and handicapped.
On Thursday afternoon, September 23rd in Oceanside Ca, where he resided for over
53 years, Grover was called home to receive his crown and be reunited with his beloved Katie.
