Jaden Leon Ritcherson was born on August 24, 2019, at 8:38 a.m. and gained his wings on May 10, 2026, at 12:08 a.m. He was a deeply loved son, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend whose light touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Jaden lived in Vista, California, surrounded by immense love, unwavering devotion, and the people who cherished him most. Though he faced more than most ever should at such a young age, Jaden met life with a strength and resilience that inspired everyone around him. He was a fighter in every sense of the word, but what defined him most was not his battles — it was the joy, laughter, and love he carried through them.
Jaden was full of life. He loved being outside, going on adventures, visiting amusement parks, and making memories wherever he went. At the same time, some of his favorite moments were simply being at home “just chilling,” playing with his toys, dressing up in costumes, and inviting everyone around him into his imaginative world. He had a way of turning ordinary moments into something magical.
Music made him come alive. He loved listening, singing, dancing, and making people laugh with his big personality. Jaden was funny, sassy, incredibly smart, and carried himself with a humor and confidence far beyond his years — so much so that many lovingly joked he was “16, not 6.” He had his own sayings, his own style, and a way of lighting up every room simply by being himself.
One of the things everyone loved most about Jaden was how unapologetically himself he was. He never felt the need to conform and always moved through life on his own terms — and truthfully, everyone around him happily adjusted to his world because that was just who he was. Jaden loved immersing himself in the characters he admired and would fully commit to becoming them, insisting that everyone call him by whichever name he had chosen at the time instead of Jaden. Over the years he became Simba, Michael Jackson, Miles Morales, Harry Potter, and finally “Zed” from Disney Zombies — a name he proudly held onto and asked to be called up until his very last breath. It was one of the many beautiful ways Jaden expressed his imagination, confidence, and fearless individuality.
Another thing that made Jaden so special was the way he gave nicknames to the people he loved. Receiving a nickname from Jaden felt like being chosen by him, and people would secretly hope they would get one. Every one of his hemodialysis nurses had their own personalized nickname inspired by whatever Jaden was fascinated with at the time — whether it was a Disney+ show, a character he loved, music, or something completely random that only made sense in true Jaden fashion. It was his unique way of showing affection and making people part of his world.
He especially loved nighttime car rides along the beach with his mom, always stopping first for vanilla soft serve ice cream before heading out to listen to music and enjoy the peaceful drives together. He loved amusement park adventures and had gone to Disneyland over 150 times, where the magic, characters, rides, and excitement matched his adventurous spirit perfectly. He also loved his beloved Honest grape juice. Whether he was laughing, joking, dancing, or creating little adventures of his own, Jaden brought warmth and wonder everywhere he went.
Jaden also dreamed of becoming a toy reviewer and content creator. He loved making videos, sharing his excitement over the things he loved, and entertaining the people around him with his huge personality and imagination. He had a natural ability to make others smile and connect with him instantly.
A kindergartner homeschooled by his mother through Pacific View Charter, Jaden loved learning and brought his bright spirit into every school day they shared together. Despite everything he endured, he proudly completed kindergarten and maintained a 4.0 GPA, even earning a certificate recognizing his hard work and academic achievement. He approached learning with determination, curiosity, and the same resilience that defined every part of his life.
One of the moments his mom will always hold close was hearing him answer question after question correctly during schoolwork before quietly hyping himself up by saying, “I’m a genius, bro.” It perfectly captured who Jaden was — confident, hilarious, clever, and full of personality in a way that made everyone around him smile. Beneath his playful spirit was also a gentle and tender heart that naturally drew people in.
Jaden leaves behind his loving mother, Valerie; grandmother, Lisa; Tia Ashley; Tio Fabian; great-grandparents Blanche and Augie; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and loved ones who will miss him beyond words.
He is reunited in heaven with his great-tia Evelyn, great-uncle Andy, and his beloved dog, Tupac Leon.
Jaden leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind the sound of his laughter, his catchphrases, the love he gave so freely, and countless little pieces of himself that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Jaden and his mom had begun creating an adventure book together, which she will continue in his honor — carrying forward the stories, love, courage, and joy that defined his beautiful life.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Jaden’s hemodialysis family, as well as their community of family and friends, for the overwhelming love, support, and care shown throughout his journey and beyond.
