He was born in Canutillo, Texas, one of six children to parents, Refugio and Enrique Campa, on October 2, 1930. He and his family came to California in 1938 when he was about 8 years old and settled in Carlsbad. Here he met his future wife, Magdalena Tarango and at a young age, they both knew they were meant for each other. They were married on January 2, 1949 and together they raised eight children in Carlsbad.
Reverend Jesus Campa had an outstanding work ethic throughout his life. He took pride in doing a job well done. He learned carpentry from his father, Enrique Campa, which he did well for about 32 years of his life.
Besides his love for his family, Rev. Campa loved serving his Savior, Jesus Christ since the day he accepted Him into his heart. This was in November 1958. At that time, Rev. Campa heard the Lord say, “You are my minister, you are!” From that day on, he ministered in the Lord’s work. He became a member of the Church “Templo Golgota” in Carlsbad, California and was given the job of building a new Church Building. It was finished in two years and was dedicated in December 1960 with a new name, “La Nueva Jerusalem”. He had his schooling under seven Pastors, and ministering and serving in different ministries.
In the first five years of accepting Jesus Christ into his heart, Rev. Jesus Campa became part of the street ministry in Oceanside, Carlsbad, San Diego, Tijuana BC, and other nearby cities. In his first year he was elected as the Youth President of his Church; and in his second year, he was elected as the Youth Vice President of the Santa Ana Section which he held for four years. In 1964, he was named Sectional Commander of the Royal Rangers Ministry and he held that for 25 years. During those years, he also was the Representative of the Men’s Ministry, the Sunday School Ministry and the Missions Ministry.
In 1981, Rev. Jesus Campa received his Exhorter’s Credential from the Southern Pacific Latin American District, Assemblies of God, which is now called the Southern Pacific District, and in November of that same year, he opened the Church that is today “Las Buenas Nuevas” in Vista, California and he was given the honor of being its Pastor.
During his time as a Local Pastor, Rev. Jesus Campa also held other positions in his area. He held the position of the Secretary-Treasurer of the San Diego Section, the Presbyter of the San Diego Section, the Executive Presbyter of then Region 3 and also the District Presbyter of then Region 3, and from then up to the present he held the office of Executive Presbyter of Region 7. One can say that Rev. Campa’s heart was in serving the Lord, serving you the people and serving those in need.
Rev. Jesus Campa was preceded in death by his parents Enrique and Refugio Campa; his sister, Florentina Lariviere; his brother, Enrique (Henry) Campa; his wife, Magdalena Campa.
Four days after Rev. Jesus Campa passed away, his son, George Tab Campa also passed away.
Rev. Jesus Campa is survived by his sisters, Magdalena Martinez, Evangelina Tarango and Anastacia Serna. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Jesse, Theresa, Gary (Claudia), Henry Paul, Ralph Charles (Maxine Enriquez), Rachel Corr (Tom) and Richard (Jill); 29 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
