John Gomez

John Gomez passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025, at the age of 88 in Oceanside, CA. Born on May 10, 1937, John was a lifelong resident of Oceanside and a graduate of Oceanside High School, class of 1957. Many remembered his achievements on the track and football field as RB Go-Go Gomez. He furthered his education at San Diego Barber College, which carved the path for his long and cherished career as a barber. John served his country by being drafted into the United States Army, where he committed and served. After his military tenure, he returned to his roots in Oceanside and transitioned from an earlier career as a cabinet maker at Carlsbad Cabinet Shop to becoming a beloved local barber. For over six decades, Johnny’s Barber shop was a cornerstone of the community, where he was not just a barber but a friend to many. He was known for his outgoing personality and perpetual smile, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all his customers. He also owned and operated the Esquire Barber shop in downtown Oceanside for over 30 years. Beyond his professional life, John loved his family. He is survived by his wife, Connie Gomez; son, John Gomez; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Kevin Wigley; grandchildren, Rebecca Gomez, Ava Wigley, and Thomas Gomez; and great-grandson, Grayson Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Candelira and Miguel Gomez, brother Edward Gomez, and sister Rachel Gomez.

Johns hobbies included cabinet building, a skill he not only mastered professionally early in his life but also enjoyed as a personal pastime, creating beautiful pieces for family and friends. He also enjoyed deep sea fishing. His love for his family was profound, particularly for his grandchildren, to whom he was deeply devoted. John will be remembered as a pillar of his community, a dedicated family man, and a friend to many. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and dedication that will be cherished by all who knew him.
