Jonathan Marc Newcome, 80, of Oceanside, California, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 18, 2026. Known for his incredible sense of humor and a personality that lit up any room he entered, Jonathan will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Jonathan was born on January 17, 1946, in Dayton, Ohio, to Bernard and Eleanor Paul Newcome. He attended Ohio University, where he earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering. He went on to build a successful career at Bayer, where he became a pioneer in plastics engineering, developing innovations used in CDs and molding technology and was awarded several patents over the course of his career.
Jonathan and his wife, Julia, made their home in Hopewell, Pennsylvania, for more than 40 years, where they raised their family and became deeply woven into the community. He was a dedicated member of the Sewickley Valley YMCA, where he was well known and well loved, and always active — an avid racquetball and tennis player, and a passionate golfer who rarely slowed down. A true Pittsburgh sports fan, he could often be seen and heard cheering for his Penguins, Pirates, and Steelers.
Jonathan is survived by his wife, Julia Newcome; his children, Daniel Jonathan Newcome (Susan Morey), Elaine Terese Hind (Kristoffer), and Christopher Marc Newcome; and his grandchildren, Kayden Hart Hind, Kaia Love Hind, Hank Michael Newcome, and Cassidy Eleanor Newcome. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Eleanor Paul Newcome, and his siblings, Michael Newcome, Melanie Newcome Rineer, and Mary Ellen Newcome.
Jonathan will be deeply missed by all who knew him, remembered for his brilliant mind, his contagious energy, and the joy and laughter he brought to everyone around him.
Family and friends will be received at a celebration of his life on October 10, 2026 from 12 PM - 2 PM at Harold’s Inn, 2134 Brodhead Rd, Aliquippa, PA 15001.
