Mary Pauline Muse was born on September 12, 1923 in Los Angeles, California. Her mother was Carmelina Castagna and her father was John Mosso. As a young adult she worked in a rectory. Later she moved to Sacramento and did clerical work at McClellan AFB. She met my father, Fred Joswig who was enlisted in the US Air Force. They married in 1942 and lived briefly in Canada then Sacramento, Ca, where her only child, Bill Joswig, was born December 24, 1945. She moved with her son to Reno, Nevada in 1954 ending her twelve year marriage. She met a remarkable elderly couple, Ethel and Keith, who we resided with for nearly a year. Ethel was blind but very independent. She was a beautiful human being who in spite of her visual impairment was an excellent cook and house keeper, qualities my mother greatly admired. My mother was hired by Lincoln Fitzgerald, owner of the famous gambling casino in downtown Reno. She was nicknamed "Mouse" because of her timid nature but was truly admired by the boss for her work ethic. One day he was seriously wounded by a former Detroit mafia member. He survived but thereafter always walked with a limp and became a recluse. She met her best friend, Vivian (Robbie) Petersen at the casino. Robbie was loving, loyal, and humorous throughout my mom's life. In 1955 my mother married Thomas C Muse in Reno, Nevada. He was an avid sports fan and we always enjoyed talking baseball, especially the Giants and later the Padres. My mother always did her utmost to provide me with opportunities. In spite of financial constraints she made it possible for me to attend the catholic high school in Reno, Bishop Manogue. After high school graduation I moved to Sacramento to attend college. After graduation from medical school I married Mary Jacober on June 17, 1973. We moved to San Diego in 1974. A few years later we helped my mom and Tom move to San Diego. I considered Tom like a 2nd father and called him Pop. After he died at the age of 86 in 1994, my mother lived alone in her condominium in Oceanside. In March 2014 she moved to independent living at Emeritus Carlsbad. When it became evident she needed 24 hour care and was no longer ambulatory, she moved to a wonderful facility in Fallbrook in June of 2015 that provided constant activities and superb care. Gradually due to dementia she was no longer able to recognize her family or communicate. She passed peacefully. She entered into rest on March 21, 2017 in Fallbrook, California.
Arrangements are under the direction of Eternal Hills Memorial Park, Mortuary, and Crematory.
