Nick was born February 19, 1975 in Oceanside, California and is survived by his caring and loving wife, Alejandra Barnhart, and beautiful ray of sunshine daughter, Marisol “Sol” Barnhart.
As a young boy, Nick grew up playing on the railroad tracks and beach of Oceanside with Ray Zarate, his childhood neighbor and friend. The simplicity of running in the streets into the late night hours and riding bikes was all it took to make this young boy happy.
Nick resided for a short time in Carlsbad and Vista but finally settled in Oceanside where the real chapters of his life began. This is where he met his brothers from other mothers, “Los Guys”, Shawn and Rob. They shared a special bond that united them closer than any blood relative. Nick loved, respected and was always loyal to his brothers and their families. Sharing the same interests they were inseparable. A brotherhood that to Nick, was truly priceless.
On a Summer night in 1994, on a headlight-lit boulevard of candy painted lowriders cruising Highland Avenue in National City is where Nick’s red Nissan mini truck led him to the Love of his life, his world, his everything, his “Woman”, Alejandra. After a very brief hesitation, she was quickly captivated by Nick’s unique confidence, charm and breathtaking smile.
Nick picked up Alejandra from her parents’ home in September of 1997 to never bring her back. On August 28, 2001, Alejandra gave birth to their beautiful daughter, Marisol.
Again Nick’s heart was robbed. Marisol brought a new light to Nick’s life, a light that would guide him into the man he became; a caring, action-oriented, honest, loyal, loving, husband and father and the rock in their lives.
In the years to follow, Nick became a real family man. He cherished every moment and memory he created in the company of his family and close friends at regular bbq’s, camping trips, fishing adventures, pumpkin patch expeditions, birthday parties, holiday gatherings, dining outings and shopping sprees. Words can’t express the affect the amazing feeling and warmth you’d feel in your heart observing him absorb and enjoy every minute of these special moments.
Nick always said he was a “man of actions, not a man of words” and his actions never went unnoticed. Always willing to help a friend in need, provide advice and wisdom, teach, share and support. He was a solid and loving soul who many looked up to. It is a great loss to all who had the pleasure of knowing him and being a part of his life. His presence will always be missed and delicious briskets never forgotten. His laughter, his smile and his crazy sayings will leave a void in the hearts of all of us until we can be with him again, may his soul soar and fish the open seas in paradise.
