My sincere condolences to the family and all that loved him. 💕

It is November 11, 2025, and I just found out about the passing of my friend Olusegun.

We met in Los Angeles on the dance floor of Price’s  club Glam Slam then later became Vertigo (we’re talking 1993+). 

We look forward to seeing each other and just having a good time dancing the night away. One particular time I was exhausted and I left early, Olusegun stayed. He called to tell me that Prince showed up in a purple limo with a pink suit on and played a small set. I wish I had stayed.

I remember his car, the Toyota… it was so raggedy and he had money, but refused to get a new one. He told me his parents came for a visit and insisted that he got a new car. I don’t remember what year that was.

We lost contact and reconnected over the years and most recently. I found him on LinkedIn at the end of 2023 with promises of connecting in 2024. Life happened we never connected.

I just sent him a text a couple of days ago only to get a,  “Who is this response?” Then I googled my friend’s name only to find this obituary. I am sadden, but thankful to have known such kindness and genuine friendship and know as a believer that he is with God! 

Family, my deepest prayers and thoughts are with you. You raised an amazing human being that touched the heart of many.

To the family and friends of Olusegun Michael Adebanjo,

I am writing this message with a heavy heart upon hearing the devastating news of Segun’s passing on September 19th. Though the miles and the years—over three and a half decades—had separated us since our days together at Federal Government College, Ogbomosho, the news of his death struck me deeply.

To many of us who shared those foundational school years, he was and will always remain Segmar. That name evokes memories of youth, shared laughter, and the camaraderie unique to those hallways and dormitories. Even after so long, the bond of our FGC Ogbomosho family remains strong, and the loss of one of our own is keenly felt.

I still remember the bright, energetic spirit he carried, and I know he will be profoundly missed by those who saw him every day.

My deepest prayers and thoughts are with his immediate family, friends, colleagues and loved ones as you all navigate this immense grief. May you find strength and comfort in the legacy of love and the memories Segun created. 

May Olusegun Michael Adebanjo (Segmar) rest in eternal peace.

In complete shock. What wonderful soul, one of the best in our little party group once upon a time at Syska. Sending love and peace to him and loved ones.

Michael was a beautiful soul — kind, humble, and full of respect for everyone around him. He worked hard, cared deeply, and treated people with genuine warmth and sincerity.

To me, he was more than a colleague — he was a friend I truly admired. His kindness, calm spirit, and integrity left a lasting mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

He will be deeply missed, but his goodness and the light he brought into our lives will always be remembered.

Michael and I met when I joined Syska out of college. He was a wonderful colleague who became a great friend.  Smart, witty, fun with just enough quirkiness to let you know he was a real person. I will remember our days as young men when we could still get to the gym for a game of bball or meet at the club and dance the night away.  I will never forget the party President - "El Presidente".

My thoughts are with the family during this difficult time. May you find comfort in the love that surrounds you and strength in the memories you hold close.

Michael was a trooper, hard worker, and he always carried a smile on his face.  The whole team loved the guy.  I send his family and his Syska team members my sympathies and acknowledge how such an great guy and so integral in all of your lives passing, and passing  so unexpectantly, is so difficult.

What a great person to know in tour life. We worked together years ago at Syska. Even though we had not seen each other in years, it was like yesterday when we crossed paths. The world was a better place with him. Sending love and support to his family from the McIver Family.

One thing about Mike — when the music hit, joy followed. This video takes me back to one of our best moments: performing “Why You Get Funky On Me” by TODAY at my friend’s 50th birthday party. We lived for 90s New Jack Swing, dance, and karaoke — and Mike never missed a beat.
 
That night, we laughed until our faces hurt, danced like nobody was watching, and sang like we were on tour. Mike brought so much energy and light wherever he went, and he reminded everyone around him how to live fully in the moment.
 
This wasn’t just fun for us — it was celebration, connection, freedom. And that’s exactly what he embodied. I’ll forever cherish memories like this one.

Dear Adebanjo Family,

I want to extend my deepest condolences to you during this incredibly difficult time. Michael was far more than just a co-worker to me—he was my brother in every sense of the word. I became his "Naija Sister" learning of my Yoruba and Fulani heritage. His presence in my life was a true blessing, and I will always be grateful for the bond we shared.

He was a man of conviction, passion, and purpose. I’ll never forget how he guided and encouraged me on my first visit to Africa, believing deeply in the power and importance of Black Americans reconnecting with the continent. That journey changed my life, and I owe it in large part to his wisdom and unwavering belief in something greater than himself.

His legacy lives on—not only in the work he did and the people he touched, but in the way he inspired others to walk in truth and to embrace their roots with pride and courage. I will miss him more than words can express, but I find comfort in knowing his spirit continues to live on in all of us who had the honor to know and love him.
