Richard was born to parents Elmer and Leila Gause in Madison, South Dakota on May 16, 1940.
Richard was united in marriage to Priscilla Reyer in Naha, Okinawa on June 1, 1966.
Richard joined the United States Air Force in 1961. He served his country for 26 years until his retirement in 1987 at the rank of Captain.
While in the USAF he attended Golden Gate University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in business management in 1973. He attended the University of Northern Colorado where he completed courses, working toward his Master of Science degree. He attended Officer Training School at Lackland AFB, Texas and was commissioned in 1975. He served in the military as a Technical Instructor (Electronic Principles) and was promoted to the position of Branch Chief (Electronic Principles) at Chanute AFB, Illinois, and later served as a Missile Maintenance Officer at F.E. Warren AFB, Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Richard loved to travel and spend time with his family, friends and their family dog Lady. He enjoyed motorcycling, camping, boating, water skiing and sailing. He had a passion for classic cars and working on automobiles. He had an adventurous side and enjoyed exploring the countryside. He had many memorable family vacations. One such trip he took together with his family was from Cheyenne Wyoming to California and back, in their 1971 VW camper bus with 9 people and a dog. He often said “the best-behaved member of our family on the trip was the dog” That vacation is still the topic of many fond memorable events.
Richard was a compassionate and friendly soul to everyone he met, always ready and willing to help anyone in need. His wisdom, advice, and sense of humor brought inspiration to everyone who knew him. He set the example to others to emulate. Richard was an intelligent, witty conversationalist who loved to talk to everyone he met. Everyone loved to hear his personal anecdotes, comments and humorous jokes. He was a man of many passions, talents and abilities. He was truly an inspiration to all who knew him.
Richard is preceded in death by his father, Elmer and his mother, Leila, his brothers, Roger and Ronald. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla, his 3 children, Belinda, Richard and Robert, his brothers, Donald, Gordon, Keith, and several in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Richard will be greatly missed by family, friends and all the people he touched. Richard is the epitome of a life well lived.
