Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.eternalhillsmortuary.com for the Hidalgo family.
Richard is survived by his three children, Zina, Caroline, and Larry; his seven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; and his siblings Nathaniel, Ben, Eddie, and Esther.
He was born on February 2, 1932 to Arthur and Piedad Hidalgo. He had seven siblings growing up (the aforementioned alongside predeceased siblings Arthur, Jenny, Ernest, Daniel, and Rebecca). Richard was born in Tucson, Arizona and raised in Fresno, California. Richard was extremely close to his siblings and their bond stayed strong throughout his life. Richard, his parents, and siblings, all relocated to Southern California and eventually settled in Oceanside. From an early age until he left us, his best friends remained his brothers; Art, Ernie, Nathaniel, Ben, and Eddie.
Richard met Senti Singh in 1954 and described the first time he set eyes on her and how he always knew she was the one he would marry. They started their life in Fresno and had three children. Richard lost his wife in 2001 and always divulged his longing to see her again. Richard described his greatest blessings as the family he created with Senti and often spoke of how much he loved their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Richard frequently expressed how beautiful it was to see his large family and how much he wished Senti was still here to share those moments with him.
Richard was a hard worker who spent most of his life in construction and plastering. He usually worked alongside his brothers, Art and Nathaniel, and his son, Larry. He was a provider for his family, and always ensured that their needs, whatever they may have been, were met.
In his youth, Richard served in the United States Marine Corps, and would be deployed to Korea during the Korean War. Being able to serve his country was a proud moment and a highlight of his life. Towards the end of his life, he repeatedly reminisced on the adventures he was able to undertake during his time in the service, and the often humorous stories associated with these experiences.
Richard’s favored pastimes included working on his hobbies, watching sports, and enjoying his favorite movies and shows. He was an avid fan of football and boxing, and as a high schooler played on the basketball team. In his elder years, he had a keen interest in horse racing. Another of his most treasured pursuits was creating toy models for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He dedicated many hours to intricate small trinkets that the children in his family will be able to remember him by. Richard was content to enjoy his hobbies alone but was also willing to share his interests with others.
Richard cherished his pet dog, Abbie, a small Morkie. They were best friends for 8 years.
Commitment is a key word that can be used to describe the life of Richard Hidalgo. He was committed to living the life of a good man who was both practical and trustworthy. He was committed to the traditional values that he upheld his entire life. He committed himself to being a hard worker who expected the same effort in return from those around him. Most of all, he was committed to those he knew and loved.
He joins his wife, his parents, his siblings, and his grandson, Shane.
Richard leaves an empty spot in the lives of all those who knew him and will be forever missed.
