

He was born on March 26, 1922 in Okanogan, Washington and graduated from Washington State (BA '47) an the University of Washington (MPA '70). He married Virginia R. Gee of Essex, Montana on June 10, 1944 in Quantico, Virginia.
In 1942 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served for over 32 years. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, with decorations including the Bronze Star with Combat V and Gold Star.
Following retirement from the Marine Corps, Dick served on the Board of Directors of the Pacific Marine Credit Union and was a member of the Camp Pendleton Men's Golf Club. He enjoyed traveling with his wife as well as spending time with family and his many Marine Corps friends.
He resided in Carlsbad, California for the past 37 years and is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia Peterson, his daughter Lynda Denison of Cheney, Washington, his son and daughter-in-law Dr. Bruce and Paula Peterson of Palm Springs, California, grandchildren Strider Denison (Alisun) of Mesa, Arizona, Cheyenne Denison of Cairo, Egypt, and Christie Peterson Tarwater (Wes) of Alhambra, California.
A Memorial Service will be held at Eternal Hills Memorial Chapel in Oceanside on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 1:00 pm.
