He passed peacefully on February 11, 2014 at his home in Ramona, his family at his side.
He was preceeded in death by his parents and a brother, Everett E. Cook. He is survived by his wife Carolyn R. (Ishibashi) Cook, son, Robert D. Cook, and daughter, Shawn K. Cook.
He also leaves behind three sisters, Pauline Wallis, Mary Marshall, Alice Macke, and a brother, Walter (Don) Cook, all of Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was an avid reader, he also loved to traveling, fishing, and doing crossword puzzles. He loved music and dancing. He was in the Air Force prior to becoming an educator, and he loved our Country.
He received his B.A. in Education at Cape Girardeau, MO, and his M.A. in Administration at National University in San Marcos. Bob was passionate about education and helping children. He started his teaching career in Missouri and, after serving in the Air Force, moved to Los Angeles to continue his career in education in the Los Angeles Public School District. He then accepted a position in Warner Springs and concluded his career in the Ramona Unified School District where he served as elementary classroom teacher, Special Education teacher, Assistant Principal, and Administrator in the District Office of the Ramona Unified School District. His desire to help and inspire children led him to teaching summer sessions at Juvenile Hall in San Diego. Bob retired in 1992 after a 33 year career in education.
Bob was, also, active in the Ramona First Christian Church. He not only was choir director for 25 years, but also served as Elder, Adult and Children's Sunday School teacher and led Wednesday night Bible Study Class.
He was a deep thinker and had many “words of wisdom” to help and support others. One piece of advice his children recall is:
"You can't dwell on regret. If you dwell on it you can't move forward. Just learn from it, make different choices next time and move on."
He will truly be missed by his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friends of the Ramona Library Children's section.
