Mom and Tommy, I will take this moment to say I miss Dad everyday. I would have uploaded one of these photos you have not seen that I have, but I can't figure it out and Jay's not here. I got lots of things great gifts from Dad and Mom in my soul and in my life, and I am sure that I got Dad's technological skill. Tommy did not. He's quite technically talented, but I'm so glad Dad taught me to love all of life despite my weaknesses and persevere so I can celebrate every day with my soulmate Jay who Dad loved as much as me.. until we see Jesus and Dad again. Dad taught me that all things work together for good, so I know he can see that we still have little Xavier he loved so much too. He would also like all my eight cats. I think I can get a picture uploaded for you or two when Jay gets home. I love you both and your beautiful family Tommy and I thank God for your amazing faith and lives. Romans 8:28  "And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose"

Robert Satterfield, my dad, my best friend, my wise counsel, grampa to my two angel daughters, and many other titles, was so many things to so many people.  Above all, he was known as a fisher of men.  
    Being around my dad showed me the way Christ loved people.  Dad took time for everyone.  Whether it is was the gas station attendant or the Commanding Officer of the U.S. Peleliu, Robert Satterfield made sure to check on you and to share Christ's love in a genuine and unique way.
     I miss the times that I had with dad so much.  Golf, fishing, going to sporting events, and hanging out with our families were the highlights of our father son times.  He was such a fantastic grampa to my daughters.  Reading books, going to Disneyland,  the movies, and spending the night at grandparents were memories that the girls will never forget as I can still hear the shrieks of laughter and my dad's loud voice carrying through the hallway.  We always loved going to church together, singing to the Lord together, and Dad especially enjoyed the holidays.  It's been tough.
     I was and am so proud to have been his son as I think of him being principal of at an at risk children's academy school in Texas, then on a massive LHA Navy ship in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, then working as a chaplain down at the VA home in Chula Vista even after he "retired".  Dad's final few years were spent ministering to the Wounded Warriors of our great country and their canines.  He was still longing to meet new people even though he was struggling physically.   Dad's love for people, his dedication to the ministry for Christ, and his love for his family is an inspiration to me and I will carry his example with me for my whole life.
       My beloved father, Robert Satterfield, was wonderfully made to be sure.  I miss you dad.  I love you and I'll see you soon.
Thank you Jesus for your salvation and for taking my beloved father into your kingdom where there is no more pain or tears.  

When ever Bob had a service need he’d call, when I arrived we’d talk about God in his office and catch up. He was an amazing man of God, one of the most humble men I knew. He loved God, God’s Word, his wife and children, his family was important, he loved the ministry and to minister to people with the Word and the kindness of the Spirit. Chaplain Robert Satterfield was truly a Godly person and Chris-like vis-a-vis the time I had the opportunity to get to know him when he was a chaplain at Little Rock Air Force Base (LRAFB) and I was an enlisted man in the early ‘70s. Over the years, I have often thought about him and his wife who was an exemplary singer. 

I felt compelled to Google Chaplain Satterfield today (12/11/21) as a result of watching Dr. Jason Satterfield with the UCSF School of Medicine on UCTV giving a presentation about emotions and health. Watching  these types of programs has a lot to do with me being first inspired to form Married Airman Helping Airman (MAHA) during Chaplain Satterfield’s tenure at LRAFB. That inspired me to get an MSW at UALR, and eventually, my Ph.D. in Psychology at the Wright Institute in Berkeley. I've been a clinical psychologist in California for 31 years. My service to others has a lot to do with the guidance and leadership of Chaplain Satterfield. 

I am very grateful and thankful with having the quintessential opportunity of getting to know Chaplain Satterfield.

Bob was my counselor and pastor for many of the most challenging years of my life. Sometimes he'd find me hiding in his office at the church. It was the place I felt safe when I had panic attacks. 

When I started seminary, he was so excited for me. I was a single parent and one of only a few women there. I couldn't afford the books and didn't know what I needed. He gave me his seminary books and Bibles in almost every translation. I still have them and use them. I wouldn't have passed my first class without them let alone complete my master's and become a chaplain like him. 

I hope you knew what you meant to me Pastor Bob. Thank you for being a father to the fatherless. I'll miss you until I see you again. Tom and Lela, thank you for welcoming me into your home and making me a part of your family!

What a great man Bob is! How beautiful it will be to see him again.  I was one of those that he called his adopted son.  What a beautiful and gracious gift of love (like his father God) he gave out to others. 
He was so easy to relate to. It was fun to be able to relate to him about Turkey and see his eyes light up about his fond memories of Turkey and his love of Turks and even speak a few Turkish words together. 
May they too come to a living relationship with Jesus,  as you yourself have and now made face to face without any dimness of sight. 
May your and our even better heavenly father take care of all your hurting loved ones left temporarily behind. May they find solace in your keeper and purpose from the same purpose which blazed your path so brightly. 
What a bright light you lived here and now you are with the pure bright one! We miss you and love you and will strive to help your family through this hard valley.

Bob was such a special person. I was always impressed how he was passionate about a topic of serving our Lord Jesus Christ and people, how he was excited about  different opportunities God gave him and others to  talk with some, for instance veterans about our Savior. That was something else. I love Bob a lot! We already miss him! :( We are looking forward to see him again when we will meet each other and the Lord in heaven! Yeah!  Dear Tom and Brenda, Lela and girls, I know how it is hard to lose your beloved one but  Bob is in the best place ever right now. He can see the Lord Jesus Christ face to face! What a joy! We love you and our condolences to you all from Turkey too

I met our dear Chaplain at Sherry’s Project Pack. At first meeting with him, I was taken by the kindness, generosity, and open love he displayed to us all. I could tell that he was a man among men and his aura was that of a purposeful man. His actions, thoughts and lead prayers, gave us all purpose as Veterans adjusting to civilian life. He was a wonderful man I cherished in the short time I knew him. 

A God loving, spirit heart, community leader, and a friend & ally to animals is how I will remember this remarkable man. 

I will miss him. May our “Chaps” Rest In Peace . 

I truly loved Mr. Satterfield--- as I lovingly called him, because I was raised to address the parents of friends by their last name. It felt unnatural to call him Bob.

Mr. Satterfield used to call myself, and three other mutual friends of Tom his "adopted sons." I lost my father when I was five, and those words of affirmation of a father from him meant the world to me, because I knew they weren't just words coming from him.  He meant them. In fact, I don't ever remember him not saying exactly what he meant. You always knew where you stood with him, which is a simple but extremely rare trait....to let one's yes be yes, and no be no.

One time, I was spending the night at his house because I was giving him a ride to the airport early the next morning. I jokingly asked him if he could wake me up like a drill sergeant. He just said, "Oh Joe, grow up. That's silly." But in the morning he was barking my name like a drill instructor. "Get out of bed right now, soldier!" It startled the living daylights out of me. He got me good. I loved his sense of humor, and his fun nature.

He, Tom and I once went to see a screening of the concert film "Elvis On Tour." (One of our shared mutual interests. A love of Elvis Presley.) I looked over at him when Elvis sang "Bridge Over Troubled Waters," and he was crying, as was I. To me, that tells anyone who wants to know what type of man he was. He wasn't afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve. He knew who owned his heart-- Jesus.

He didn't hunger for the applause of men.      

At the end of the film Ordinary People, the father tells the son, "Don't admire people too much. They'll sometimes disappoint you." The son replies, "I'm not disapointed. I love you."

Mr. Satterfield, my "adopted father," I'm not disapointed. I love you.

Whom have I in Heaven but Thee? And besides Thee, I desire nothing on earth. My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.    Psalm 73:25-26




I'll never forget my dad taking me to the pet store to look for a kitten. I was 5 years old and my big dad suddenly appeared from behind the corner. My dad called my name and showed me in his muscular hand a tiny beautiful black and white kitten. We took him home, and my dad named him Harrigan after our favorite restaurant. That kitten was so affectionate and playful I never played with dolls. I could dress my cat up and put him in a cradle. He would just lie there even with dogs in the house. Our whole family loved Harrigan and God used Harrigan to be a deep comfort to me in all the ups and downs of the 19 years we had him. My dad gave me the best gift ever just as he provided everything else I needed in life. I'm looking forward to God's great gift of letting me see my dad again forever. Matthew 7:8-11 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it shall be opened. 9“Or what man is there among you, when his son shall ask him for a loaf, will give him a stone? 10“Or if he shall ask for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? 11“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!
