He graduated from the Miami University of Ohio in 1954 with a bachelor of science in mathematics.
He joined the Marine Corps and served for 26 years.
He reached the rank of LT Col serving in both Viet Nam and Korea.
He was married for 48 years to Virginia Keel Topping.
They had four children Michael, Elizabeth, Jeffrey and Matthew.
He has 13 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren.
He liked Irish music, camping, working on cars and watching sports on TV.
He died March 11, 2011 at the age of 80.
