Roger Gomez-Bueno

Born in Centeocala, Puebla, his family moved back to Santa Monica, Coehtzala, Puebla where he grew up and met his wife Maria.

Although he only completed the third grade when in school, he pushed himself intellectually. He taught himself to read and write in Spanish, and, when he arrived in the United States, he taught himself to read and write fluently in English.

Roger loved to read books that focused on personal development, finances, and continued education. It was this drive for self improvement that helped him earn his real estate license and helped him understand similar topics with ease.

Aside from being an incredibly intelligent person, Roger loved to tell jokes. He always had jokes at the ready, so that even when the topics were serious he’d manage to make people laugh.

He was also sure to always look put together. He valued physical appearance and would take his sweet time in the bathroom getting ready, at the expense of the long line forming outside the door!

There were many things to admire about Roger, one of them being that he never went with the flow just to appease others. He had his own goals and dreams and he followed his heart toward them and encouraged us to do the same.

He taught us to never stop learning, that we’re never too old to start again, and that there is more to life than meets the eye.

Most recently, he taught us to always have hope. His terminal illness was not an easy journey. He suffered greatly, and yet despite this he always had hope that he would get better. His constant hope served as a reminder that even in the middle of chaos, our hope serves as a guiding light and beacon of peace.

Our dad didn’t want to go. He wanted to stay here with us. But although he may no longer be with us physically, his spirit is with us and that brings comfort to us every day. We’ll always carry him in our hearts.

And so, today and always we’ll remember him.

Rest in peace, Dad. We love you and will see you again.

Rogelio Gómez Bueno, también conocido como Roger, falleció a los 63 años en el condado de San Diego, CA.

Nacido en Centeocala, Puebla, su familia regresó a Santa Mónica, Coehtzala, Puebla, donde creció y conoció a su esposa, María.

Aunque solo completó el tercer grado en la escuela, se esforzó intelectualmente. Aprendió a leer y escribir en español de forma autodidacta y, al llegar a Estados Unidos, aprendió a leer y escribir con fluidez en inglés.

A Roger le encantaba leer libros centrados en el desarrollo personal, las finanzas y la formación continua. Fue este afán de superación personal lo que le ayudó a obtener su licencia de agente inmobiliario y a comprender temas similares con facilidad.

Además de ser una persona increíblemente inteligente, a Roger le encantaba contar chistes. Siempre tenía chistes preparados, así que incluso cuando los temas eran serios, conseguía hacer reír a la gente.

También se aseguraba de lucir siempre bien. Valoraba la apariencia física y se tomaba su tiempo en el baño para arreglarse, ¡a costa de la larga fila que se formaba afuera!

Había muchas cosas que admirar de Roger, una de ellas era que nunca se dejaba llevar por la corriente solo para complacer a los demás. Tenía sus propias metas y sueños, y seguía su corazón para alcanzarlos, animándonos a hacer lo mismo.

Nos enseñó a nunca dejar de aprender, que nunca somos demasiado viejos para empezar de nuevo y que la vida es más de lo que se ve a simple vista.

Más recientemente, nos enseñó a siempre tener esperanza. Su enfermedad terminal no fue un camino fácil. Sufrió mucho, pero a pesar de eso, siempre tuvo la esperanza de que mejoraría. Su constante esperanza nos recordó que, incluso en medio del caos, nuestra esperanza es una luz que nos guía y un faro de paz.

Nuestro papá no quería irse. Quería quedarse aquí con nosotros. Pero aunque ya no esté físicamente con nosotros, su espíritu está con nosotros y eso nos reconforta cada día. Siempre lo llevaremos en nuestros corazones.

Por eso, hoy y siempre lo recordaremos.

Descansa en paz, papá. Te querejmos y nos veremos otra vez.
