Derrick & Jay, we were so sorry to hear the sad news of Rosemarie passing and needless to say our thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family. I know you were very close to Rosemarie and also very fortunate and blessed to have her right around the corner all these years. She was an absolute blessing and touched so many in such a beautiful way along life’s journey. Nothing we can say will help much only that those 'bike rides' (which everyone seems to mention), collecting flowers and breakfast in her little Carlsbad apartment were some of the best times in my life. I hope she is sitting with all her past family members and friends simply getting caught up laughing and smiling! She is very proud of you all! I had the honor of being Rosemarie's landlord for 20 years. She may have started off as a tenant but shortly became part of our family. It was a pleasure to hear her stories of growing up in Germany and the life she lived. She would remind me to slow down and take time to care for yourself. She was such a wise woman and my favorite. I may not know what the next part of our journey is after this life ends but I like to think Rosemarie is out there riding her bike again .

Directly under the tree to the right is where Rosemarie will have her final resting place. The spot and the overall Fort Rosecrans cemetery location is stunning. Wanted to share this particular photo so as to allow everyone an opportunity to see where Mom will eventually be. The other photos are taken from the exact spot where her columbarium is located showing the various views that she will enjoy for eternity.

We were so sorry to hear about Rosemarie’s passing. She was such a lovely, kind, and gentle woman, and we know she will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Dear Derrick, Jay and Dillon,

Thank you so much for letting me know. I was deeply saddened to hear of Rosemarie’s passing. My heart goes out to all of you.

Although we lived on opposite sides of the world and never had the chance to meet in person, I am, and always will be, incredibly grateful that we were able to reconnect as family after so many years. It has meant more to me than I can express. Through your emails and the wonderful photos you shared over the years, I felt I was able to get to know Rosemarie a little. She came across as such a warm, kind and remarkable woman, and I am truly thankful for that.

Please know that even from Australia, you are not alone in your grief. We are thinking of you all and sending our love and heartfelt condolences.

There is a beautiful poem by Lisl Güthoff that has often given me strength during times of loss. I hope it may bring you some comfort as well.

Rosemarie was one of my mother's dearest friends since the 1960s in Germany.  Rosemarie made me feel welcome and wanted when I  visited her with my mother. She was surrounded with beautiful things and the plants she grew. She always spoke fondly of her family. She will be missed.

My first memories of meeting your beautiful and loved mom when you both came to California ,
From the minute I met Rosemary I could feel her love for family , people and life ! I said to my best friend Jay how fortunate we were to have had two great motherin law s!  To have lived 97 years is remarkable ,with vigor , and kindness as you all are to have loved and help your gorgeous , loving and very articulate mom!

The gates of heaven  are filled with joy and love knowing Rosemary is present . Hugs and love to you all 🙏🙏

Derrick, I only had the pleasure of meeting your Mom once, with you at her beautiful residence in Heidelberg, shortly before she was making the permanent move to California.  I never forgot that visit and I know how much you missed her after she left.  And so my heartfelt sympathies go out to you, Jay and Dillon, Warren, Dwight, and the family during this difficult period.  Remember she had a wonderful life, particularly in her later years, having all of you around her, close by.   Be assured Rosemarie, as well as all of you, are in my prayers at this time.

In 1981 during our first military assignment we met Rosemarie in Heidelberg.  Over the next three years we were regulars at her penthouse overlooking the Heidelberg Castle. Rosemarie took care of us and we loved visiting her often.  When Rosemarie moved to Carlsbad we again visited frequently. She had wonderful stories to tell and made us feel relaxed.   Rosemarie will forever live in our hearts as a kind and gentle person.  We miss her dearly.

Rosemarie and Zeus were extremely close buddies at the Ocean Hills facility. They couldn’t wait to see each other at the start of the day.

Rosemarie was not only a happy Mom, but also an inspiring presence in the community.

She would show up at events in the Mark Twain Village Boy Scout Hut in Heidelberg, Germany, and stand out as the Mom to you three giants of Troop 1.

She was constantly smiling and laughing. Her attitude was infectious.

She was always welcoming at your apartment in downtown Heidelberg.

And Rosemarie set the standard for exercise, biking everywhere - in Heidelberg and California.

Rosemary, our world is a sadder place without you in it. The love you carried in your heart was extraordinary, and you shared it so freely with everyone around you. You will be deeply missed. Our family always looked forward to our phone calls with you. You had a way of leaving us smiling and wondering how one person could hold so much Love and joy for others. You truly were one in a million, and we will miss you more than words can say.

My heart goes out to all of you in the loss of our beloved Rosemarie. This sweet 96-year-old lady had an extraordinary spirit and loved her family wholeheartedly—especially her grandson Dillon. She always greeted everyone with her warm, kind smile, bringing gentle care, empathy, and goodness to the lives of those around her.
We shared a passion for gardens and flowers, and I will forever feel her joy when the blooms appear, especially the roses. She cherished visiting Jay and Derrick’s backyard garden, savoring the presence of nature. Her kind spirit and cherished memories will continue to comfort all of us who had the privilege of knowing her.

I am so grateful that I had the chance to know Rose. I remember her as such a wonderful and vibrant person. She had a profound impact on me, and I will always be thankful that our paths crossed.

Rosemarie, you are now with God and the Angels in Heaven. I will always remember meeting you on my last trip to San Diego in 2013. You were a beautiful woman and I won't forget you. Those we love are never more than a thought away, as long as there are memories, they live in our hearts to stay.

Losing my parents—and now losing you—has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced. I’ve known you my entire life, for more than six centuries, and we never drifted apart. No matter where we were—Heidelberg Germany, somewhere in America -we always found our way back to each other. I treasure every moment we shared.

I will miss you deeply: your spirit, your warmth, and the laughter we always had together.

I know you’re in a good place now, surrounded by your family and hopefully with my Mom, Rosemarie. You dreamed of her often, things you both went through in the past. It brings me comfort to think that you’re reunited at last.

The space you leave behind can never be filled. You were truly one of a kind—an extraordinary, important, and deeply special person.

Hard to put into words at the moment what it’s like with you gone.
Without a doubt this past week since your passing has been the hardest and saddest days of my life. The world seems so different now and much emptier with you not in it. That said, Jay, Dillon and I shall begin celebrating your life soon enough. It was an incredible honor being your son all these years. You have no idea. I look back on our journey through the years and the memories are countless. What I am embracing at this early painful stage is the fact that you and your brother Eduard are finally together again after 84 years apart. And you are now in the arms of your brother Waldemar and your parents Eduard and Maria.  This brings me so much joy knowing this. In closing Mom, you were an amazing human being. I will ensure that your presence and your memory lives on for many years to come.

I Love You so much Nanny and I miss you, I know you are up in Heaven with God and Jesus and the rest of our family. I will see you again up in Heaven. I Love You. Your Grandson Dillon Fischer Jones.
