Rudy Sahagun passed away peacefully Thursday night August 13, 2026 at the ripe age of 86 and 11/12ths with Family by his side. Rudy was reunited with his wife, Ruby Nadine Sahagun and oldest son David Hultz Sahagun, as well as his loving parents; and, to the God that created him. Rudy was born in Carlsbad, California on September 13, 1938 to his parents Josephine and Julian Sahagun and two older siblings Eron and Linda.
Rudy grew up in the wonderful town of Carlsbad California and had a love of cars, working on cars and eventually racing cars. Rudy often bragged about setting world records at the Carlsbad race way with the car he modified and worked on. After learning how important it is to find a supportive spouse, Rudy remarried his life long eternal companion, raised 9 kids together, and provided a loving household for many foster children; too many to count. With Nadine, Rudy help raise his children, including Jerri, David, Aden, Aran, Jeremy, Holly, Jared, Heidi, and Ray.
Being an Active Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was important to Rudy and many lectures and sermons were offered to those around him about the importance of family, family values, having a Christ centered Family, and sharing those beliefs to those that were interested.
Due to life circumstances, fast cars were traded for pedals and working as a Mechanic where he was able to create tools, tinker, and stay connected to his love of engines and mechanical things. A hobby he picked up was biking and Rudy loved to go on long bike rides, preferably along the southern California coastline with any person, child, and/or friend, that could keep up and not ask “are we done yet?”.
In his later years, Rudy loved to dote on his grandchildren, brag about his grandchildren, visit with them often, and especially loved helping his granddaughters know how amazing they were and could be. And, like many spouses, he was helped to be this amazing with the guidance and nudging of his more amazing wife (thanks mom for helping dad reach his potential).
Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 29 at 11:30 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 451 Bobier Drive, Vista, California. Other services for immediate family members will be occurring. Rudy’s gravesite will be at Eternal Hills Mortuary, right next to his loving wife and oldest son.
