Matthew 25:23
Ruthann “Ruth” Mercado, 54, of Vista, California, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Born on June 29, 1972, in Oceanside, California, Ruth lived a life marked by integrity, kindness, thoughtfulness, and a deep commitment to her faith. She spent her childhood playing the piano, doing arts and crafts, riding her BMX bike, swimming, playing travel softball as far away as Japan, and cruising the beach in her beloved VW convertible Bug.
Ruth graduated early from Vista High School in the fall of 1989 and immediately attended a secretarial certification program so she could secure meaningful employment while attending college. She began working in the real estate field, which led to a successful 34-year career in development. Colleagues remember her for her keen eye for detail and her dedication to excellence. She graduated from California State University San Marcos in 1993.
Outside of work, Ruth enjoyed traveling, cooking, crocheting, wine tasting, spending time with family and friends, attending concerts, playing games, exploring farmers markets, and indulging in a great spa day. Her warmth, generosity, and joyful spirit touched everyone who knew her.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Summer Watson, and son, Brandon Watson; her mother, Vera Mercado, and father, Rudy Mercado; her sisters, Judi McMahon and Rene Mercado-Gommel; her brothers-in-law, JP McMahon and Tony Gommel; and her nephews, Nicholas Mercado and Andres Hernandez. She will also be deeply missed by her large extended family and remembered fondly by her many aunts, uncles, and cousins throughout California and Texas.
Though her time with us was far too short, Ruth leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, strength, and compassion. She will be forever cherished and deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
