Preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Eva Cooper, and his son Adam Cooper, he is dearly missed by his wife Trilby and son David, who survive him.
As a child in a military family, Steve moved around the country but returned to California to attend college. He received his BA in chemistry from UC San Diego in 1971 and completed his PhD at UC Berkeley in 1976. Following his postdoctoral work at Berkeley, Steve subsequently worked as an inorganic chemistry professor at Harvard University in the U.S. and Oxford University in the U.K. It was at Oxford that he met and married his wife, Trilby.
In 1992, Steve moved back to the United States to head up discovery research at Mallinckrodt Medical in St Louis. In 2001, he returned to California to work for Quorex Pharmaceuticals in Carlsbad. Before his retirement, Steve started his own business, Patenting Strategy, where he consulted on intellectual property issues.
Steve's great loves in his life were his family, including his beloved golden retrievers, and baseball. He enjoyed hanging out with his buddies at Friday morning baseball practice in Carlsbad and participating in the Men's Senior Baseball League.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the family home, 3501 Avondale Circle, Carlsbad, CA 92008, on July 25th, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. People wishing to attend, please email [email protected]
