Susan Jane Ardapple

Susan Jane Ardapple (née Foersterling, formerly D'Allaird), a deeply devoted mother, wife, daughter, and sister, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. She was 79 years old.

A kind and caring person, Susan was always there for her family, friends, and patients — ready to listen and lend a hand. Loved by all, she will be remembered for her positive energy, sweetness, strength, and wisdom. To her children, she was the best mom we could have wished for; the world will not be the same without her.

Born on July 18, 1947, in Elmhurst, Illinois, to Jack and Nathalene Foersterling, Susan spent her early years in the Midwest. After her freshman year of high school, her family—including her brothers, Fred and Bob—moved to Palatine (Inverness), Illinois, where she graduated from Palatine High School. She went on to pursue higher education, attending both Eureka College and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

In 1968, Susan married Bill D’Allaird, whom she met in high school and reunited with after college. Together they made Barrington, Illinois their home and welcomed two children, Wendy and Michael. The family relocated to La Jolla, California in 1977. Following their divorce in 1979, Susan focused her heart on raising her children. She also built a meaningful, 20-year career in physical therapy. Most of those years were spent serving patients at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla.

It was at Scripps Hospital where she met her future husband, David Ardapple. The two were married in 1990 and settled in San Marcos, California, sharing 28 beautiful, happy years together until David’s passing in 2018.

Susan is under the care of ⁠Eternal Hills Mortuary & Crematory, and laid to rest alongside her beloved David at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Her legacy of love lives on through her surviving family: her daughter, Wendy (Christopher); her son, Michael (Karen); her stepdaughter, Jennifer (Chris) ; her grandchildren, Alexander, Olivia (fiancé Birch), Nicole, and Brendan; her brother, Bob (Janice); and her sisters-in-law, Grace (Jack) and Judy (Craig). She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Fred (Pat).
