Tavita was born on March 30, 1953, in an outrigger canoe traveling from the island of Aunu’u to Tutuila, American Samoa. He was the beloved son of the late Simi Tivao Fa’asua and Fa’aluaumeke Semi Elisara Fa’asua.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Charmaine Watkins Fa’asua, his son Tavita A. Fa’asua (Suluo’o So’oto Fa’asua), and his cherished grandchildren: Tianalia Fa’asua Price (Christian Price), Taylour Fa’asua Tua (Eirene Tua), Trinity Fa’asua Gutierrez (Lucas Gutierrez), Tavita D. Fa’asua, and Kevin J. Fa’asua. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Levi Gabriel Tavita Price, Talialealofa Aigailetai Suluo’o Tua, and Noe Faleatafa Price. Tavita is also survived by his brothers Stanley F. Fa’asua (Easter Maeva Fa’asua), and Amu Amu Jr. (Ann Maeva Amu).
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Simi Fa’asua Jr., Seteuati Fa’asua, his sisters Angel Fa’asua Poumele (Fa’amafi Poumele), Seleisa Pauga, and his beloved niece Tori “Binkie” Poumele.
Tavita dedicated 40 years of his life working as a General Foreman and Utility Arborist for Davey Tree, where he was highly respected for his leadership, work ethic, and integrity.
A man of deep faith, he loved the Lord and lived his life guided by his Christian values. He enjoyed gardening, spending time outdoors with his wife, and spending time with his family. He rarely missed a game or event for his grandchildren, and was always their biggest supporter and proudest fan. For more than four decades, he could often be found in his favorite recliner—affectionately known to all as “Grandpa’s chair”—watching old cowboy shows or cheering on his favorite teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Angels. He also played competitive slow-pitch softball, traveling throughout the United States with teams Willie D’s and Samoana.
He will be remembered as a strong, hard working, stoic, and godly man. His faith, humility, and devotion to family leave a lasting legacy for all who knew him.
A funeral service to honor Tavita’s life will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, at Calvary Chapel Oceanside. Open viewing will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. A burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside, California.
