Lt. Col. Thomas W. Slack passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 25, 2026. Born in Wheeling, West Virginia, Tom graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1953 and served his country as a Marine Corps aviator before transitioning into communications.
During his final year at the Academy, he met his beloved wife of 69 years, Jean Marlene Cheon Slack. They married shortly after graduation and treasured their years together, including a memorable assignment in London, England. Jean preceded him in death in 2022.
Tom was a devoted father, proud grandfather, loving great-grandfather, and faithful Christian. Deeply committed to his church, he served actively and at times as pastor, sharing his faith, and offering guidance and comfort to others.
He is survived by his children, Thomas Jr., Richard, and Cindy; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Tom will be remembered for his faith, honorable service, love of family, and adventurous spirit.
Semper Fidelis, Tom. May he rest in the eternal peace of God’s loving arms.
Graveside services will be held at Miramar National Cemetery on November 23 at 9:15 am.
