Tom was born on February 21, 1951, in Rochester, Minnesota, to John and Irene Steiner. He attended Alexander Ramsey High School in Roseville, Minnesota, graduating in 1969. A dedicated athlete, he was a member of the basketball, football, track and field, and cross-country teams.
He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Minnesota at Mankato while working for his family’s business, Ace World Wide. There, he worked as a truck driver and also trained and supervised employees.
In the mid-1970s, Tom moved to California, where he founded Sub-4, a company specializing in the design and manufacturing of running apparel. He sold his products to retailers, partnered with running clubs and schools, and traveled across the country selling at track and field events. He remained dedicated to his business until his passing.
Tom had a deep love for traveling and meeting people. Whether waiting in line at a gas station, sitting on a plane, or dining in a restaurant, he always found a way to strike up a conversation, forming connections wherever he went. He was known for his generosity, his compassion for those less fortunate, and his ability to brighten the day of those around him.
Above all, Tom cherished his family, especially his wife, Lisa, to whom he was married for 39 years. He had a flamboyant and playful personality, a love for bold and stylish fashion, and an infectious enthusiasm for life.
Tom found deep faith in Jesus Christ and strongly believed in the miracles of God. A lifelong Republican, he was a devoted supporter of Donald Trump and embraced Trump’s “fight, fight, fight” mantra throughout his illness, holding on to that spirit until he passed away peacefully, surrounded by family.
He was preceded in death by his father, John U. Steiner; his mother, Katherine Irene Steiner; his brother, John W. Steiner; and his nephew, Harry A. Floyd. He is survived by many beloved relatives and close friends.
A short visitation will take place on March 11, 2025, from 3:00 to 3:30 PM at Eternal Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary in Oceanside
