Tim, age 84, was born in Houston Texas on March 20, 1927. He suffered from Alzheimer’s disease for many years. In December he contracted pneumonia, and lost the fight on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2011.
Tim entered the U.S. Marines at age 17, serving from 1944 to 1946. He was in the first wave of Marines to land on Iwo Jima. Tim was at the base of Mt. Suribachi when both flags were raised. After the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Tim was sent to Sasebo Naval Base in Japan on occupation duty for about one year. While in the service Tim earned the Purple Heart, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one star, the Navy Occupation Service Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
After serving his country, Tim left the service and took up residence in Southern California. He met his future wife Mary Lou, and they had two girls Pamela and Jackie.
Tim worked several different trades, but eventually settled into the construction field, working as a Grade Checker, running excavation jobs for large developments. Appropriately, his last job was the grading work for the Cannon Road on and off ramps on the I-5 freeway, which would eventually be the way home for him and Mary. They retired at Rancho Carlsbad.
Tim is survived by his wife, his two daughters, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
