She was born on Valentine’s Day February 14, 1917 in Hardisty, Alberta, Canada to Sarah O’Reilly and Howard Arthur Sly.
While still a child, she moved with her family to Marlette, Michigan. After attending Nursing school for a time, she was married to Thomas Samuel Woodhull on August 15, 1936. Tom worked as a transportation operator for the City of Detroit (DSR). They had one child Janice Noreen Woodhull.
Nola enjoyed working and spent over 20 years with Roadway Trucking in Detroit, MI until retiring to Deltona, Florida in 1971 with Tom.
Nola and Tom spent their retirement years traveling, cruising, bowling, play cards, and were very involved with the Masons, Elks, and Eastern Star organizations. They also loved to entertain. Nola and Tom particularly enjoyed going to the lodge on a Friday or Saturday night, having dinner and then dancing the night away. They were blessed with a happy, romantic, and loving marriage for 52 years until Tom’s passing in November 1988.
Nola relocated to Fallbrook, California in 1996 to be closer to her daughter Janice, and her four Grandchildren – Richard L. Duquette, David T. Duquette, Paul E. Duquette and Pamela R. Jahelka. Nola is also survived by her eight Great Grandchildren; Nichole Marie Duquette, Rachel Marie Patterson, Jeffrey Thomas Duquette, Rachel Ann Duquette, Michael James Duquette, Chase Edward Duquette, Aubrey Rene Jahelka and Derek Ronald Jahelka.
Nola remained in her home and active in her final years – even traveling to Hawaii in 2005. She enjoyed playing bingo and socializing with her friends. We will miss her.
A funeral service was held on Friday, March 25, 2011 at the Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside, California. Rev. Dr. Bradley P. Resave of Fallbrook United Methodist Church presided. Nola was then transported to the Deltona Memorial Cemetery in Deltona, Florida to be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Tom. Flowers may be sent there in her honor.
