Verna Maye Sillers, 96, went to be with the Lord on March 26, 2024, in Carlsbad, California. She was born on May 31, 1927, in Walsh County, North Dakota, daughter of Teddy and Clara Lykken. Verna was raised on a North Dakota farm where her family grew summer and winter wheat crops.
She married the love of her life, Archie Sillers on July 16, 1949. After they were married in North Dakota, they moved to San Bernardino, California where they had their four children. They soon moved to Carlsbad, California where they resided for the remainder of their lives.
Verna was actively involved in her church, King of Kings Lutheran Church in Oceanside, including singing in the church choir, attending Bible study and participating in numerous hospitality activities. Other passions included playing the piano, crafting, card-making, and baking for her family and friends. But most of all, she loved time with her family.
Along with raising her four children, Verna truly enjoyed her more than 20 years as a bookkeeper at Mira Costa College.
She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and was often heard saying “Uff da” as a badge of her Norwegian pride. Holidays would not have been the same without her famous Norwegian flatbread… lefse.
Verna was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Archie Sillers, and is survived, missed, and loved by her son John (Corazon) Sillers and daughters Kristie (Steffan) Little, Pam (Steve) Palmer and Patricia (David) Gomez. She also had seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
A private, family Celebration of Life will be held later this Spring.
