It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Holmes who is affectionately known as Baye by his sisters. He was a bright spark in this world and will be deeply missed by many. Mechanic, Military Veteran and retired High School teacher Bill’s love of life didn’t come to an end with his death. Bill passed away on February 19, 2022 at the age of 80. He faced serious medical challenges in recent years, but never with less than courage and faith. Life’s simplest pleasures made him happiest. He loved his wine, the Racetrack, friends and family, but he loved nothing more than his grandchildren. Despite the monotony, he had an uncanny ability to find joy in his daily routine. His pleasant personality and welcoming smile were contagious. To know Bill is to have laughed with or to have shared a kind word, whether a close friend or stranger. In fact, as evidenced by our “short” outings, it is clear that Dad never met a stranger. Bill was a special man. He represented the good that we all need every day in our lives. He was one of a select few who rose to meet challenges with a smile. Bill was welcomed in Heaven by his Father, Clyde Holmes. His Mother, Olivia Holmes. His brothers Freddie, Harold and Clyde Alvin Holmes. He is survived by his Daughters, Antoinette (Toni) Holmes-Chaney and Kimberlie Hawkins of Oceanside, CA. Their Children; Sheldon Chaney, Shayel Hawkins, Justin Hawkins, Maranda Hawkins and Henderson Hawkins. His sister and Brother in law Mr. John and Mrs. Cecile Fields (Aliquippa, Pennsylvania), their children and grandchildren. Ms. Margaret Ann Holmes (Woodbridge, Virginia), her grandchildren. Mr. Peyton and Mrs. Rose Tomblin (Lanham, Maryland), their children and grandchildren and many, many friends. His spirit is one of a kind and he is dearly missed. Rest well Dad. Congratulations on a life well lived!
