William “Bill” Varone passed away on May 7, 2020 after battling several serious health issues. Bill was born in Boonton, NJ on November 5, 1958. He was a graduate of Parsippany Hills High School. He was the owner of his own bindery shop and delivery service before moving to San Diego in 2010. In San Diego, Bill trained to become a professional long distance truck driver, and he enjoyed traveling the entire country in his big rig. He also received a Security Guard certification and became a much loved, friendly presence to those he protected each day.

Bill was passionate about thoroughbred horseracing. While still living in NJ, he traveled to California to meet with his mentor, Dr. Howard Sartin, who was an enormous influence on his life. Bill founded his own website, PaceandCap.com, where he could share his knowledge of the Sartin Methodology. There he practiced his natural teaching skills and great desire to be of service to others, and he developed many long term and meaningful friendships there. He is greatly respected and loved by that community.

Although he was quiet about it, Bill had a great sense of humor. He was a big sports fan and loved participating in his family football contests. He enjoyed traveling to Saratoga, NY each summer to meet with the Pace and Cap community. He also loved driving his bright yellow Karmann Ghia. He was generous and would often go without so that he could help someone in need.

Bill is survived by his sons Alex and Ben, father Joseph, brother Joe and sister-in law Sandy, sister Lois and brother-in-law Ed, niece Emily and her husband Kelan, nephew Ed and his wife Lee, and his great nephew Danny. He is predeceased by his mother Esther, who passed away in 2016.

Bill,

We will always remember you as such a kind and gentle soul. Heaven has been given another angel. You will be terribly missed by all of us!

Our favorite memory is sharing a day with you at Del Mar Race Track! You were truly in your element and it showed. You helped the whole group of us to understand all the basics (and a few tricks) for betting on the horses! it was so much fun! We also enjoyed the many holidays and BBQs at Ed and Lois's. You were always thoughtful and caring to everyone.

Sending love and prayers!

Billy,
When I think of you the words sweet and kind are what come to mind. My favorite memories of you are when you would come over our house to visit Grandma and when it was time to leave my mom ( Aunt Dolores) would always tease you and tell you that you were sleeping over. You would run over to Aunt Esther and hug her legs. We would laugh and laugh. It never got old! I know you had a lot of health problems you were struggling with for a long time, but I hope now you are resting and pain free. Your mom and all the Varone’s are up there caring for you now. We will miss you and I promise to wear the youngest cousin crown proud!

Billy...you were a Blessing to the Varone family. Such a gentle & sweet soul. You are now in Heaven with your Mom & the rest of the Varone clan. We will all miss our baby cousin. I wish I got to know you better but I was one of the “old” cousins. One thing I did find out about you recently was your love of Karma Ghias ... me too... my favorite car. Love ❤️ your cousin Jennifer (aka...Jenife)

Such a beautiful tribute to such a precious soul. I loved all the photos and the memories. I especially loved the childhood photos and the Springsteen pic. Words of endearment are often expressed when someone passes from this earth, but I don't even have to stretch the truth when it comes to you. You truly forever will be one of the kindest humans to ever grace my life. You are a golden hearted individual, and the world was so lucky. We may have playfully butted heads when it came to sports, and I may never understand how you, a Jersey boy could not possibly be a Yankee fan.. (GO YANKS... GO NYG). but I hope you know that I was a fan of yours. My heart will always be grateful to you for keeping my grandpa's work and spirit alive through Pace and Cap. I know that you he was so much more than a racing guru to you, and you were much more than just a student/protege to him. You reminded me a lot of him actually. You both went though Hell to come through the other side. You both were so genuine in your desire to help people. If you cared... you truly cared and people knew it. I know you are in perfect peace and health now. I know you have joined your mom and your loved ones in heaven. I am sure you know how much you are loved and how many lives you have touched and will always be apart of. Fly with the angels my friend and dance among the stars.

You were only waiting for this moment to arise
