She is also survived by her brother, Lenny (Robyn) Bickelhaupt of Hammond; step-children Amy Gasconi and Michael Wyman of Ogdensburg; mother-in-law Jean LaJoy of Ogdensburg; nephews Cody (Erycka) Bickelhaupt and their children Bode and Thomas, and Adam (Courtney) Bickelhaupt and their children Sawyer and Radley; along with many aunts, uncles & cousins, extended family members, and treasured friends whose lives she touched deeply.
She was predeceased by her infant son in 1996; her parents, Daniel and Carolyn (Warren) Bickelhaupt; father-in-law, Alfred “Mose” LaJoy and step-mother-in-law Rosemary LaJoy; and her grandparents, Joseph and Alice Warren and Hershel and Valera Bickelhaupt.
Born on November 6, 1964, in Ogdensburg, Angela was the daughter of the late Daniel and Carolyn (Warren) Bickelhaupt. She graduated from Hammond Central High School and Northwest Tech BOCES and pursued her passion for learning through studies at Canton, Oswego, and Potsdam Colleges, earning her Masters Degree in Education. On October 26, 1996, she married the love of her life, Jeffrey LaJoy, beginning a partnership founded on love, laughter, and shared dedication to family and community.
Angela fulfilled her lifetime dream of becoming a mom, with her greatest joy on the arrival of baby Sydney. She enjoyed watching Sydney grow and mature. She loved being a mom through the highs and lows. Sydney is Angela’s biggest and proudest accomplishment.
Angela devoted much of her life to helping others grow and succeed. As an educator, she worked throughout St. Lawrence County at Hammond Central, Morristown Central, Gouverneur Central, Mater Dei College, Canton College, and at Riverview and Gouverneur Correctional Facilities. She retired from Hammond Central School after 34 years of teaching; a profession she was proud to be part of. In retirement she continued to teach, most recently at Gouverneur Central School. Her students and colleagues knew her as patient, encouraging, and deeply caring — someone who believed every person deserved dignity, opportunity, and support.
In addition to her work in education, Angela was the owner and broker of St. Lawrence River Real Estate LLC, where she built lasting relationships through honesty, warmth, and a genuine desire to help people find not just houses, but homes.
Community service was at the center of Angela’s life. She was a proud member and president of the Ogdensburg Zonta Club, a 20+ year member and past chief of the Morristown Ladies Fire Department Auxiliary, a dedicated 25-year member of the Diamond Sportsman Club, a member and secretary of the Black Lake Chamber of Commerce and a member and past chair of the St. Lawrence County MLS. She was also instrumental in starting the Hammond Central School Trap team. Whether volunteering her time, organizing events, mentoring others, or simply offering a helping hand, Angela gave selflessly and wholeheartedly to the people and causes she cared about.
Above all else, Angela cherished the people around her. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. Her home was often filled with family, friends, laughter, holiday decorations, and the warmth she so naturally created. Angela enjoyed playing Bunko with her Morristown and Jefferson County Groups. She loved entertaining, traveling, spending time at her camps, and spoiling her beloved animals. The memories she created with those she loved will remain treasured forever.
Angela’s kindness, generosity, and community spirit will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever celebrated.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Morristown or Hammond Fire Departments or to the Ogdensburg Zonta Club. Condolences and fond memories may be shared online at Foxandmurrayfuneralhome.com. A reception will follow services at the Morristown Fire Department.
