

Funeral services for Anna M. Merrill, Age 79 of County Route 10 Heuvelton, will be held on Sunday (Sept 20, 2015) at 1:00pm at the Heuvelton Methodist Church with Rev. Jenni Piatt officiating. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 1:00-4:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mrs. Merrill passed away at her home on Wednesday evening (Sept 16, 2015) surrounded by three generations of her loving family.
Surviving are her children James (Lida) Merrill of Rochester, Thomas (Susan) Merrill of Baldwinsville, Daniel (Anita) Merrill of Ogdensburg, Sherry Chamberlain of Birdsboro, PA and Terri (Joseph) Persons of Heuvelton; 13 grandchildren Charissa (Ryan) Moll, Julia Pavia, Kathrynn Merrill, Samuel Merrill, Kellyanna Merrill, Nicholas Merrill, Joshua Chamberlain (Simon McDonnell), Diana (Zac) Shepherd, Christianne Chamberlain, Jon Persons (Amanda Taylor), Jessica Persons, Justin Merrill & Allison Merrill; 5 great-grandchildren Lilyanne, Joshua, Natalie, Samuel & Jon Jr.; along with several step-siblings, nieces, nephews & cousins.
Anna was born on July 28, 1936 in Winthrop NY, a daughter of Sadie (Gray) Farnsworth and step father Ray Farnsworth. She graduated from Canton High School and continued her education at the Kingston Nursing School where she received her Registered Nursing Degree. She later married Arthur H. Merrill on April 7, 1957. He predeceased her in 2002.
During her career she was employed at Canton Hospital from 1957 – 1963. She then began her employment with A. Barton Hepburn Hospital working as a charge nurse in the ICU and nursing supervisor until her retirement in 1999.
She was the president of the United Methodist Women, United Helpers Board Member, Girl Scout Leader, Sunday School Teacher and a member of the OES Chapter # 60. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, cooking and spending time with her family.
Anna was a very loved and respected daughter, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, nurse and Christian. Anyone that knew her loved her. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren lovingly referred to her as Nanny. She also became Nanny to many others who she loved, and loved her.
