Arthur P. Schwenk

Funeral services for Arthur P. Schwenk, age 91 a resident of the United Helpers Nursing Home and formerly of Proctor Avenue in Ogdensburg will be held Tuesday (September 20, 2011) at 11:00am at the St. John’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Robert Longbottom officiating. Interment will be at Foxwood Memorial Park with full military honors.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 5-7pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mr. Schwenk died Saturday September 17, 2011 at the Claxton Hepburn Medical Center with his family by his side.

Surviving is a step-daughter Patricia Weiler of Ogdensburg; grandchildren Michael O’Dell & his wife Sally of Ogdensburg, Lori Middlemiss of Ogdensburg, Kevin O’Dell & his wife Terry of Albany, William Griffiths & his wife Jennifer of Syracuse, Victoria Nichols & her husband Jeff of Massachusetts; a cousin Audrey Campbell of Rosedale, NY; 11 grandchildren including Brian Middlemiss of Ogdensburg and Jake & Justin O’Dell of Albany who were especially close.

A sister Mabel Geuter & her husband George predeceased him.

Arthur was born on October 2, 1919 in Brooklyn, NY a son of the late Andrew & Louise (Schmidt) Schwenk. He graduated from Newton High School in Queens and served in the US Navy during WWII from Feb 1942 – Jan 1945 sailing on the USS Hammann in the Atlantic Theater of Operations. After his discharge from the Navy, he returned to Maspeth Long Island, NY and was employed as an office worker at the Western Electric Corp. for a total of 38 years before retiring. In 1960 he married Dorothy Wunsch in NY City and the couple moved to Seaford Long Island, NY where they lived until moving to Ogdensburg in retirement in 1973. Mrs. Schwenk predeceased him on November 2, 1993.

He was a member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ogdensburg, The Telephone Pioneers, the Masonic Lodge F & AM in Queens, a life member of the VFW Post 2936 in Ogdensburg, and life member of the DAV.

Arthur enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, watching sports and going to the casino.
