

Funeral services for Bessie B. Rush, age 85 a resident of the United Helpers Nursing Home and formerly of Hammond will be held on Monday (November 7, 2011) at 3:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Douglas Decker officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Fineview Cemetery in Hammond.
Calling hours will also be held on Monday from 1:00pm until the time of the service. Mrs. Rush died Friday (November 4, 2011) at the nursing home surrounded by her family. Arrangements are with the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.
Surviving are her children Patrick Gallagher & his wife Lisa of Hammond; Janie Hollister & her husband Robert of Hammond and Tammy Gallagher of Hammond; nine grandchildren Kent Hollister of Hammond, Karrie Bowman & her husband Tom of Hammond, Kevin Hollister & his wife Sheri of Mooers Forks, Kasey Sheehan & her husband Robert of Yuma, AZ, Korey Hollister of Oneida, Ryan Gallagher & his companion Jessica Poore of Hammond, Keith Gallagher & his wife Jessica of Fort Wayne, Amber Honeywell of Hammond, Victoria Amyot & her fiancee’ Michael L’Abbe of Evans Mills; eight great-grandchildren Beth Bowman of Watertown, Tayler Bowman of Hammond, Thomas Hollister of Hammond, Rylee Hollister, Owen Hollister and Audrianna Hollister of Mooers Forks, Kendall Honeywell of Hammond and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
Two brothers Eugene & Robert Slate predeceased her.
Bessie was born on July 7, 1926 in Hammond, NY a daughter of the late Ernest & Alice (Yerden) Slate. She graduated from Hammond Schools and married Gerald J. Gallagher on May 8, 1946 at the Hammond Presbyterian Manse. He predeceased her in 1990. She then married Robert Rush on April 10, 1993 at her home in Hammond, he also predeceased her.
During her career, she worked as the Cafeteria Manager for Hammond Central School for 27 years and enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, spending time with her grandchildren and traveling. She was also a past member of the Hammond Order of Easter Star, past Deacon of the Hammond Presbyterian Church and a member of the Hammond Historical Association.
