I am so sorry to hear of Beth passing.  She was such a nice person.  Enjoyed working with her in materials management many years ago.  God bless her and all of her family.  She will be missed!

As a writer, I am used to fabricating something out of nothing. I weave words together to create elaborate stories and make those who read my work believe in the world I have constructed for them. Yet for all of my wordsmithing talent, there are times I stumble and falter as I write. This being one of them.

And so...I had to recruit help. Yes, I have MY memories of Grandma, but my memories aren't enough. Mine are limited as I was unable to spend a lot of time with her because of the distance between us. However, it was about quality, not quantity.

I share instead, not only my words, but memories of a lifetime given to me by our family to help me write. Eulogies are the hardest pieces to put together and this is my second. After all, how can you truly do justice for a loved one?

My grandmother was a force to be reckoned with. As the matriarch of this family, she had been a pillar of strength for the generations following her own. The people in our lives, whether they are friends or family, or even strangers, come into our lives for a multitude of reasons. Whatever the reason may be, one fact is certain, they are given to walk with us for a short time or for the long length in the journey of our lives as we navigate it. The work they do, they lessons they teach, and the way they touch us leaves footprints on our souls. Remember to tread lightly when you meet someone because your interaction with another can greatly impact them in ways you never knew. Leave a footprint someone can look fondly on instead of fear and trepidation.

Grandma left a lot of footprints despite not having the strength to stand. She tread carefully upon the hearts that beat here. Most of our hearts beat BECAUSE of her. And with her passing, they will beat FOR her.

It is common knowledge that there was one thing grandma loved more than life itself...and that was her family. Who else could she pass her wisdom onto other than her children and grandchildren? She taught our parents to be kind, tolerant, and respectful of others and their ideologies. She offered unconditional love and acceptance to anyone who passed over her threshold. She listened when we needed to unburden ourselves, and she gave advice when it was needed or wanted.

Time spent with her meant listening to ghost stories and talking about her favorite shows to watch. It meant camping at Eel Weir and fishing for bullheads. Time stood still with I love you more competitions and laughing at how she yelled at everyone. Time was sharing a last birthday and having conversations about angels, Mom and Daddy, and how beautiful Heaven truly is.

Time with grandma was being taken care of by her when you were sick. It was watching her hold your baby for the first time. Moments with her were filled with late night air horns blaring and slices of buttered toast. It was doing her nails and running fingers through her hair.

Time with her meant talking of strippers and handsome men. It was making an impact that allowed one man to step up when another backed down. Time was late night hugs and kisses. It was inspiring a granddaughter to learn how to knit. Time was loving her animals and playing with babies.

It meant sips of water through a straw and deep fried fish dinners. It was holding hands and be taught how to crochet. Time meant conversations about being ready to die and her worries for those left behind. Time with her meant telling her everyone will be okay and that I would take care of them. Time meant promises meant to be kept and assuaging her fears.

Grandma was many things. She was the strength in our legs, the warmth in our embraces, the love in our hearts, and the tears in our eyes. She has gone but she will never be forgotten.

Now, for the first time in a VERY long time, she is at ease. Now she rests and slumbers like the angels she loved so dearly. Now, she may breathe a sign of content and she can sing along with us. She's able to walk beside us where she struggled before. She can now run along with her great-grandchildren and rediscover the innocence of childhood. Now, she may laugh long and boisterous until the sen sets.

It is with these words that I help close the chapter on this woman's life. It is with my words, echoed with the memories of others, that we say, not goodbye to her, but we say until we see you again. This chapter from the book of life has now been put to rest. All that remains for us now is to turn the page and see what the rest has in store for us.

Mom, 
It seems empty here without you even though you have been gone just a few days it feels like an eternity. The last time that I held your hand and wiped away your tears, I knew that if I let go you would leave us to be with the rest of the family in Heaven.  I know that everyone was there to greet you with open arms. Someday I hope that you are able to tell us all about what Heaven is like. 
I will never forget all the times that I came to your rescue.  Remember when you broke your ankle?  Well, I came running as fast as I could and if I wasn't able to I sent someone else.  Mostly mom, I want to thank you for being the best mom that you could be and for being there for me and our little talks that we used to have all the time.  Right now I feel lost, but I am sure in time I will find my way in the world. I can only hope that I can be half the woman that you were.  You were a very strong willed women that we could all look up to.  You always knew what was best for us and yourself.  Not to mention, you always had a way with words. For example: "If you ever get into trouble with the law, don't call me!  Get yourself into trouble, get out the best way you know how!"  But, the best words that you were willing to freely say was that you loved me! Your love was unconditional and rare; just like you. I am going to miss you to the moon and back and then some more. 
Heaven has received a very special angel and I hope that God takes extra care and spends a lot of time with her.  She will be missed by many.  But, in my heart there will an empty space that can only be filled by you mom.  I love you dearly. May you rest in peace and be surrounded by Grandma, Grandpa, Gloria, Sadie, Willie, Pauline, Murry, Al, JoAnn, Henrietta, Grandma Downey, and everyone else that I can't think of including the good Lord above.

Lighting this candle for you mom, So you can see your way into Heaven.. Give everyone a big hug from all of us here.... Tell them we miss and love them all very much. I Love you, and miss already and it only been a few days...But feels like a life time...  Love you bunches... Jeanine

Mom I miss you so much it hurts.  But I know your with God . I am not sure how to go forward with my life not able to hear you , see you smile or hear you laugh.  I  love you mom , I know your watching over us from heaven.  I thank you ,I miss you so much.

Mom, I will miss you until we are together again.  I miss your touch, your laugh, your sense of humor.  I miss your companionship, your smile and the long talks that we had.  I miss your I love you competitions before we went to sleep at night.  I miss you waking me up in the middle of the night just to have someone to talk to. I hope and pray that I was able to help comfort you right to the end.   Until I see you again just remember.... I LOVE YOU MORE!!!!   Love always and forever, Angie.

This beautiful soul is my Gram, I was with her at the final moments. I was there for her last breath. I held her hand and talked to her told her everyone and everything is going to be ok. I helped her home. Gram I love you so much and I'll miss you more than u will know.
