A funeral service for Betty J. Mallott, age 75, of State Highway 68 Ogdensburg, will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 3:00 pm. The service will take place at the United Methodist Church in Ogdensburg, with Pastor David Piatt officiating. A burial service at the Ogdensburgh Cemetery will occur later this summer, at the convenience of the family.
Calling hours will also be held on Saturday, June 21 from 12:00-2:30 pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mrs. Mallott passed away Saturday June 14, 2014 at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, after falling ill at her home.
Surviving are her children Brenda Kalk & her husband Jeffrey of South Glastonbury, CT, Richard Mallott & his wife Barbie Jo of Ogdensburg, Melissa Jusianiec & her husband Jerry of Alfred Station, NY, Roger Mallott of Ely, MN, and Rhonda Ogle & her husband Don of Littlestown, PA; two brothers Howard Ellis & his wife Helen, and Richard Ellis both of AZ; nine grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
Betty was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Ellis, and an infant sister.
Betty was born on May 26, 1939 in Ogdensburg NY, a daughter of the late George & Doris (Keeler) Ellis. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and continued her education at Potsdam State where she earned her education & administration degrees. She married Roger C. Mallott on August 20, 1960, at the Ogdensburg Methodist Church, with Rev. Scouten officiating. Their marriage later ended in divorce.
Betty’s lifelong career working with children encompassed several organizations, including serving for many years as the Sunday School Superintendent for the United Methodist Church, owner and operator of The Mother Goose Nursery School (25 years), and teacher and principal in the Ogdensburg City School District (40 years). During her time with the City School District, she spent time at Madill, Washington, Sherman, Lincoln, and later retired as principal from Kennedy School in 2001. Once retired, Betty also worked to start, and eventually oversee, the Advantage After School Program for a number of years.
Outside of her work in the schools, Betty enjoyed reading, playing computer games, listening to music & playing the piano, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a long-time member of the Zonta Club, the Garden Club, the Ogdensburg Cemetery Association, Chamber of Commerce, Red Hat Society, School Administrators of NYS, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She served on the Ogdensburg City School District Board of Education, and was a member of the board of directors at the United Helpers.
