David is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his daughters, Teri (Cory) Tanner of Hammond, Lisa (Guy) Rosenbarker of Hammond, and Shayne Marsaw of Clayton; his cherished grandchildren, Hannah (Ryan) Brown, Sydney Tanner, Terin Rosenbarker, Shae Rosenbarker, Riley Marsaw, and Emerson Marsaw; and his great-granddaughter, Elena Brown. He is also survived by his sister, Priscella McMann of Rochester.
He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Marsaw, and his infant sister, Prudence Marsaw.
David was born on June 27, 1939, in Ogdensburg, the son of the late Lawrence E. and Eva I. (Barney) Marsaw. He graduated from Hammond Central School in 1956 and went on to further his education at Oswego State. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963. On December 18, 1966, he married the love of his life, Barbara Gove, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned nearly six decades.
A hardworking and dedicated member of his community, David owned and operated Marsaw & Marsaw Gas Station and later Marsaw’s Fuel from 1972 to the present day. In addition, he faithfully served his community as a rural mail carrier until his retirement in 2002.
David will be fondly remembered for his deep love of sports and the outdoors. A loyal Los Angeles Dodgers fan, he rarely missed a game and could often be found cheering them on with enthusiasm. He had a lifelong passion for fishing and took great pride in supporting local athletics, especially the Hammond teams. In his younger years, David was a standout basketball player, a point of pride he carried with him throughout his life.
He was a former member of the Chippewa Bay Fish & Game Club and the Hammond Fire Department, and an assistant coach for the girls Hammond Basketball. He also coached youth softball in the summer for many years, always willing to lend a hand and be part of something larger than himself.
Above all, David will be remembered for his kindness, steady presence, and the love he shared with his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the strong, close-knit family he helped build.
Memorial donations can be made to the Hammond Fire Department. Condolences and fond memories can also be made on www.foxandmurrayfuneralhome.com.
